Hi,

I've searched the forums for a bit, but can't seem to find a clear answer regarding the NS7 on VDJ7.

A little bit of background....

I've been on Serato since it was in beta. Before that I was on FinalScratch. 15 years DJ'ing, 12 years in radio, and I'm also a software developer so I know my way around. :]

The first-generation Serato hardware has a problem with i3/i5/i7 cpu's on newer laptops, causing audio failures. My frustration with this has sent me searching for other options. After spending $1500 on a TTM-57SL, for it to not work with a modern laptop is just more than I can bear. Hence, I found Virtual DJ and have fallen in love with it.

So now, I'm looking to replace my TTM-57SL and CDJ-800's.

Does the NS7 work with VDJ7? Is it seamless? My biggest request is that I could use the crossfader on the NS7 to control the video only, and control audio just with the up/down sliders. Could someone tell me if this is possible before I go spend $1200 + $300 for a case + another $300 for VDJ?

I currently own the NS7 and it works seamless with vdj7, I might even say that it works better than ruth Serato. I too was having drop out issues with Serato. Vdj7 gives you more features and freedom to control the software via the controller. The NS7 and Nsfx already come premapped to Vdj7 so theres no need for any tweaks unless you wanted to do something different. Good luck I hope this helped!
 
Any NS7 users. Can he map the crossfader as the video crossfader only?
 
Yes, you can map it however you want. There is also an option for you to just link the two x-faders (audio and video) together. So if you only mixxing video, then you can do it that way the easy way. OR you can map it however you want. The NS7 was performong great back in VDj 6.05. But now, its even better. The reaction time is awesome, if you have good CPU. You can scratch it up something fierce, just like on turntables, only better. And the sound is really good and even better now with VDj 7. I too periodically check in with ITCH. But its just no competition now, especially with VDj 7 being out now. And if you implement the NSFX controller, then you really can take advantage of VDj efects for both audio and video. And again, everything is mappable to your liking. I can make the x-fader trigger an effect if I want. Not that I would. I use mine out professionally with no worry anymore of crashes or audio/video problems. But, you MUST have good hardware to take advantae of VDj 7. Hope that helps.

One other question - I saw a youtube video where the user wasn't able to get the start/stop time knobs to work in VDJ properly - Has this been fixed in v7?

This is the only thing not working with the ns7. I own one and I being running it with virtual dj since I purchased it. I hadn't use my NS7 with serato itch due to all the problem with the software. I really love it and Atomix had done a great job with the new virtual dj 7. Hopefully the start and stop botton will be mapped soon!
 
There should be a super easy workaround for this, map the buttons to activate the effects "LongStart" and "Brake". afterwards, map the knobs to control the length of both.
 
christian i too was on finalscratch, then ssl from beta then when i wanted to get into video i looked around for options. i too found numark cue/virtual dj and haven't looked back since. like you said now that there issues with the sl1 technology and older 57's i just gave up on SSL. they first said is wasn't there hardware, then it was this then that now its a problem because it was happening to mac users. i haven't plugged in my sl in over 2 years and it just sits on the desktop looking at vdjs backside working.

features and plugins for both vid and audio are way superior than SSL. good luck on your switch you will see this board is very helpful unlike other boards who ride dicks and are blinded by the light.
