Topic: New user - two question

Hi,

Firstly - what a fantastic piece of FREE software. Unbelievable - well done guys - I have been searching for a product like this to use for organising and playing music for a non-profit sports club I help run, and this is just perfect.

Two quick questions;
1) I am running version 7 with 4 decks. I notice that if I am playing a track in one deck, and load another track to another deck, it sometimes causes the volume of the deck that is playing to drop. There is no movement in the gain or volume controls. Any ideas ... ?

2) I have some long MP3's that contain multiple songs "pre mixed". I don't want to split the songs out as they have some special mixing between tracks that I need to retain. The problem is that Virtual DJ only seems to preload a few seconds of the longer tracks rather than loading it all in to memory. This means that a) Virtual DJ is displaying the track length wrong, b) I cannot manually skip to a certain part in the file - because it hasn't all been loaded and I can't see the wave form so I know where to jump to. I have a very hi spec laptop, 8Gb Ram and fast processor(s), solid state drive etc, so it's definitely software rather than hardware enforcing the limit. Maybe there is a menu option somewhere so I can force it to load larger files in to memory rather than just a short preload?

*** (EDIT - Fixed number 2, found the "preload" options!) *** Still need help with number 1 though, definitely a problem somewhere.

Finally, not a question, but just had to say that the iPad remote interface is just genius. I am keeping an eye out for when it appears in the app store. I currently do not own an iPad/iPhone/iPod or infact anything "Apple" but am going to buy an iPad just for that function alone. I almost feel guilty that this software is free, but I have no need for the additional functionality offered in the Pro version(s). Hopefully you'll get a bit of money from me when I buy the iRemote app?

Were you playing a song that you have never played before? If so, then if the song had not loaded in full, the correct gain will not have been determined. This may result in a sudden change in volume (Gain) once the song has loaded in full. To avoid this, you should pre-analyse your music collection (Or alternatively allow the song to load in full before playing it.)

Argh - fallen down at the first hurdle! Step one of the instructions says;

The easiest way to do this is the following:

(1) Create a new filter folder by clicking the blue + folder icon at the top of the left-hand section of the browser.


... but there is no "blue + folder icon" on my screen. Is this "skin specific" ?
 
It is part of the browser, so should be present regardless of what skin is being used.

You should see it near the top of the folders list (Left-hand section of the file browser.) It is a blue + symbol on top of blue folder icon.
 
 
This is because you currently have the folders list hidden.

Move the mouse to the word FOLDERS on the far left-hand side of the screen and drag this right to reveal the folders list.

I stand corrected ... my scan has now finished and all files have the correct Gain. However the problem still continues. It's not to do with gain. This is what happens.

1) I am using the "4-deck" default skin
2) I load a song on to deck 1 and start it playing. If I leave it all the way to the end, it's fine.
3) If I have the song on deck 1 playing and i load another song on to deck 2, 3 or 4, the volume of the song playing on deck 1 immediately drops. Not a lot, but even that I can notice it.

It happens everytime I have a song playing on any deck - as soon as i start a song preloading on any other deck, volume drops on the track that is playing?! I am not starting the new track - just loading it - and it's the volume of the one that was already playing that drops, not the new one. I watch the volume and gain controls carefully and nothing visually is changing - just an audible drop in volume.

Help??
 
How is your sound configured (CONFIG -> Sound Setup)?

It sounds as though you may have configured VirtualDJ for master + headphones and you have plugged your speakers into the output assigned to the headphones, so that the deck being pre-listened to (The one you just loaded a song to) is louder than the other.
 
You're right - that was it - changed it to default settings and now working flawlessly.
