Hi All,
I'm a DJ (duh :P) I've been DJing for about 15 years, when i started, it was with normal hifi pioneer cdplayers!! :P A few years later i got into club djing and you won't believe what decks they had... They had the tehnics 5 disc cd changers. But few months later they got sl 1200. Thats where i started to learn the art of beatmixing ;)
Anyways, As the years went by i learnt to beatmix with many different decks cds and vinyl, which range from the entry level decks to expensive professional decks. Today I own a pair of denon dns5000, a few months ago i started the transition to digital djing... First i tried mixmeister (good software) but i wasnt getting my "kick" out of it. Then i came across virtualdj... That's where i fell in love with the whole digital djing, so i decided to buy it :D
My problem is that im a bit lost now as to what to do exactly, as in getting to mix like i used to. I have figured it out a bit, for example i can beatmix with it using a external mixer and also with timecoded discs, decks and without the decks. What confuses me is playing with the decks and the timecoded discs. This is how i do it, i select a song move it to the open deck, adjust the cue on the deck to the first beat of the song save it and press play on the deck. While playing the song i start adjusting the pitch slider and bending the pitch till i hear the beats are aligned, with my denons it works fine, cause the pitch slider on the screen corresponds to the pitch slider on my deck. Last week i did the same thing but with the cdj100s live in a club, but that didnt work out so well :( If i would bend the pitch nothing would happen on screen, if i moved the slider same thing, so it got me wondering if i am doing something right or not. I was using the the timecoded discs from this site recommended for the low output decks like the cdj100/200s.
My questions are
1. After loading the song on virtualdj, should i find my cue point there or on the deck?
2. while playing the song should i use the sync button?
3. When i load a new song, should i move the pitch slider from my deck back to zero?
4. What do you guys recommend?
I can't think of any other questions now, but i will probably think of more later ;)
Thanks

It all depends on how YOU want to do things...
VDJ supports 3 timecode modes. Relative, Absolut and Smart.
In Absolut mode you should NEVER do anything from the software other than loading the track you want to control. All the manipulation should be done by your hardware deck (Denon,Pioneer,SL1210 e.t.c.)
In Smart mode you can use both ways to do things. You can use your hardware deck or the software to control the song, or both at the same time.
In Relative mode most of the job is done on the software as you can only control the pitch (speed) from the hardware.
So, it's up to you how you want to use your timecode system... I suggest you take a look at the manual and the forums to see the dirrerencies between the three modes.
