Hi all, i hope whoever reads this is fine and groovy.
I know its not strictly a VDJ issue but i dont know who else might know the answer to my question, which is, Can i Delete the Windows 7 Operating system i got with my i3 laptop and get an old version ov XP Pro to run on it?
I've done everything i can to turn off all background processes but the software runs very wobbly and jerky, and it ran like a dream on my old dell running XP Pro...
Short and sweet (just like i like em!!) only joking...
or am i?

Best bet is Windows7forum.com I used to go there when i had Xp too.
Yes you can, its called a format
I cant be bothered to explain how to do it BUT as i am aware, you can only do it if you made the computer your self or the hard drive/ motherboard hasn;t got a password protecting it from such harsh events.
Where did you buy it and how old is it?
Youtube: How to format a hard drive and take some notes.
P.s. Have you got the Window XP/ Vista disk that you got with your computer?

Only issue may be if it's a newish PC there may not be XP drivers for some of the components. Worth checking that out first!

Thats true. Though i guess most are ready for W7 along with XP.
Xp is rubish, stay with 7. Its nice and smooth to use + fast.

I would disagree there, I found Windows 7 to be a bit better than Vista but not nearly as fast as XP.
I have created a bootcamp partition with XP SP3 on my Macbook Pro 17" and it goes like stink. There are a few modded versions of XP available out there that come with all the patches incorporated and save you having to go through the massive updates required from the base version of SP3.

I thought I would get on this talk. I bought a new Laptop last weekend a Sony Vaio with i5 processor 6gig of ram windows 7 home premium 64bit. Rang Sony this morning to see if i can down grade to 32bit was told that the components would not work and I would have quite a few issues, are there any other persons running 64bit with virtual DJ without any probs,

Well probably one of the 1st issues you will have is a 32bit OS cannot use over 4gb of Ram which could cause an issue.

Lets do this we need to know what laptop you have?
Go to the laptop web page in see if they have XP drives for it.
If its a new laptop the OS should be win7 64bit. If so you will need XP 64bit drives.
This is when it gets fun.. If they have XP drivers all is good if not , you will need to
put some work in. Before we go into all that let us know what you come up with.

it's best to stay with the w7 .....
enter ctrl-shift-esc then the processes tab ....
how many processes ??
at idle how much cpu is being used ?
i have 2 W7 systems one is an HP laptop with only 4 gigs ram it runs video with multiple fx nearly perfect ....
sometimes the video preview will freeze (but not what the customers see on there screen) when i am scanning for
bpm (usually a new netsearch wireless download) other than that , perfect
the other w7 system is a Gateway with 8 gigs ram and an ATI video card that i swapped out the crap default one for
this is a desktop with an upgraded grafix card and runs excellent .... only 38 processes

wow, thanx to all who helped there. Here are a few ov the answers to your questions...
my laptop is an HP i3 dual core Operating with: Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
CPU: 2.13GHz Intel Core i3-330M
RAM/Expandable to: 4GB/8GB
Hard drive size/speed: 500GB/7,200 rpm
Optical Drive: 8X DVD-Super Multi DL
Graphics/video memory: Intel GMA HD/shared
Display size/resolution: 15.6 inches/1366 x 768 Phew!!!
and not forgetting my trusty RMX.
When i press Ctrl+alt+del only VDJ is running?
The CPU max is only 13% tops ever.
I've checked out all the Hercules sites for info on turning off background systems and only using default screen and turning off Wireless stuff and Anti Virus programmes.
I've also got a thing called game-booster that frees up space and turns off anything that isn't being used by VDJ.
I'm starting to think that the problem lies with the OEM basic software as others seem to have no problem with systems less highly rated. Its just a case ov savin up a bit and commiting to the Pro licence.

ctrl-alt-del in vista &w7 gives you the menu , not the task mgr .......?
ctrl-shift-esc invokes the task mgr directly, bypassing the menu .....
i think you should stay with w7 .....
in my opinion w7 is actually better for (just) audio and soundcards .....
video is a whole 'nudder thing .....
i got my RMX running on my w7 lappy on the first try
i finally just now got it going on vista (insert huge amounts of swearing ,here...)
if you have game booster that's great ......
you need to do some OTHER tweaks apparently ....
turn off windows firewall and defender and the user account control ......

Use the DPC latency checker to see if there are any spikes indicating an error with some driver on your system. On my system, the drivers for the core motherboard components were all standard microsoft drivers. Replacing them with intel-issued drivers made quite a difference.

ok this is what I came up with. You need to make sure what Model you have.
It should be one of these
HP G62t-100 CTO Notebook PC
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=4132697&
HP G62t-250 CTO Notebook PC
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=4188396&
The good new is that XP 64bit will run on them
make sure what Model you have.
