Right I have been fiddling with a friend Hercules external and have been thinking about getting something A little more professional with a better interfacce with more control (I find the jog wheels and the cross fader way to close together for fast pace mixing nudge nudge mess everything up! )
I am not hugely technical, I perform live using the laptop and VJ , I was hoping for something which does a similar job as the hercules DJ Console but is a little more advanced…
I have had a hunt around and have spotted a few products but I am worried about a few things:
1) If I purchased a external mixer can they be hooked up to the laptop the same way as the Hercules Via USB ?
2) What mixers are compatable with VJ (don’t wanna be caught out here)?
3) The laptops onboard sound card is not perfect whereas the hercules dj console is ? ssentially an external sound card as well I am thinking if I were to purchase a different mixer would I end up requiring a better soundcard to connect it all together with?
Im currently not aiming at kitting myself out with time coded vinyls or turntables but it is a future option , so basically…
Are there any mixers out there which work with VDJ which are not the hercules dj console but do a similar job?
Any help would be appreciated, I have scanned the forum and I have my eye on a Behringer VMX Pro 3 channel mixer . . . . would this work?
Regards

Every external mixer is compatible with VirtualDJ;
Just plug your soundcard outputs towards your mixer and adapt your sound config in the VirtualDJ options.
Everything will work for sure.

Hey, mixers are completely externally supported. They do not need any compatibility with any software.
Just plug the outputs of your soundcard into the appropriate channels and dont forget the VDJ setting for an ext.mixer.
Also, you would like to check this out: www.numark.com
They have some good USB mixers, so you can plug them into your laptop and they will act as a soundcard and take output through the USB, along with the analog inputs.
Peace.

Behringer Mixers are good for beginners. Pretty much you can tella good mixer form its price.
see for example, the Behringer VMX300 is 3 channel mixer...but a Pioneer DJM300 is 2 channel mixer for twice the price of a VMX...
But as you are looking for a Basic mixer, VMX 300 is a good choice...but do lookout on the net for other mixers, there are some great hidden deals out there..Also, while buying a mixer, lookout for the S/N ratio..the higher this ratio, the better is the clarity of sound.
Peace

Aight I'm back. Hmmm... so you are unsure about whether you want an external mixer or not?
Well, its all upto your usage of VDJ. With a mixer, you can Mix your music more accuratel by monitoring the Music (or Pre-Listen) via Headphones, and you will have smoother mixes. Also, you will have the actual feel of fading between two tracks as you will be using a "real" crossfader! Not to mention, the opportunities of expanding your audio setup, you will be able to branch out your audio outputs two amplifiers, recording decks, cd burners, etc etx.. as compared to the two stereo outputs of your soundcard. If you wanna give the mixer a shot, do go for a good quality one for a good deal of low price so you wont have to shell out much on your first one...I have a Numark DXM01USB as my first mixer, and i love it...gonna spend soe more years with it...(i just started using it, and i just entered the VDJ world...Im just 19) Later maybe will be plannig on a pair of XP10s when i really can afford them...
Anyways, wanting a mixer is left to you.. but not having one is a disadvantage to some extent...
For the shortest of explanations, It gives a PRO DJ look!
Happy DJing, all the best on your plans...
Peace

yeah i am from pune..
thanks for the info...
i have two soundcards on my system, so pre-listening is not an issue...
i do agree that that an external mixer does give a pro dj look...and appearance is all..
hmm...i guess i will have to give the mixer issue greater thought...for now i am investing in a maya44 usb..lets see how that works out..
cheers

I have bought a berhinger djx 700 for connect my hdj console and my tables. Is it a professional mixer?
I supposed yes. What's wrong with berhinger mixer? why people tells that they are mixer for begineers?
I hope it's good, cause in lot of websites i have heard it's a professional mixer.
If anybody had some experience with it, please post some comments. Thanks and sorry again for my english :D

i suppose they call it a beginers mixer coz it does not have a lot of additional features and buttons..
it is a basic functional mixer that does what it is supposed to do..
as for whether it is professional or not..
case in point: VDJ
nobody (out there in lala land) rates it as a professional DJing solution, but carl cox uses it, benny bennasi does( I think) so they can eat s*it
so it is just a matter of what your feel is.. if the behringer does it for you then it the solution for you..simple
cheers

I think, it depends on the build quality...
A beginner does not "play" with the mixer like a pro does...
just take a look at this clip (courtesy- www.denondj.com)
http://www.denondj.com/videos/DNX100_DJ_C-Reality.wmv
-and you'll know what a pro dj does with a mixer..
also, pay attention to the Signal-Noise ratio i while readin the specs of a mixer. Behringer mixers have about >80db. not more than 90db for sure. this is the clarity of the sound output by the mixer. take a look at the pioneer or denon mixers (costs almost double even for a simple 2 channel mixer)
They have SN ratios of about >105db...which is great..
So, this is where a "PRO" mixer varies from a Beginners mixer..
As i read in another thread, 'you can only be as good as the equipment lets you to be'...so if you wanna be a really rockin DJ, go out for the best deals on the better brands like Denon, Vestax, Pioneer, Numark...

I have Denon x300.
It is important what sound is when you connect it to speakers. This is main function of mixers - to bring you best quality of sound. The second part of functions is what mixer can offer you.

'Professional' is an opinion I think. Some would say that Behringer is not a professional mixer, but then some would say that Pioneer, Denon, Numark, etc al are not professional either. I know people who would never mix on anything but Rane, which most would agree is professional. However, try to do multitrack recording using a Rane and you will not look professional either.

I really could use some help!! I have VDJ version 2.0. My soundcard is the Maya44 MKII. I have a Behringer external mixer. My problem is with the configuration of my soundcard and VDJ. This card is a dual output soundcard. Deck 1 to channel 1 of mixer, Deck 2 to channel 2 of mixer is what I desire. All I ever acheive is getting both decks playing on one channel of mixer (ie demo version). According to the forums this configuration should work. What am I doing wrong??? I have tried every configuration within VDJ as well as my soundcard settings, even adjusted Windows XP settings, no luck at all!!! No cue thru my mixer no dual output on my soundcard!! Help!!!
Any help woukd be great

all is ok, the demo you are using should work this way, only both decks playing in one output
anyway try new 3.0 demo :-) it's a little better and more stable.
In full version I'm pretty sure you'll be able to have separate outputs for each deck :-)
Have a nice day

i need some Tips for adjust bass-mid-hi-gain in the right way in external mixers.
发表时间 Sat 18 Jun 05 @ 8:58 pm
what exactly ?
many users prefer not to use EQ in the vdj and leave it at 0 if they had external mixer
but in your case you only have external mixer as a "master" for all the music,
because you cannot change bass and highs for each deck.
Turn of limiter in the settings, adjust the eqs to the maximum values you will use in vdj
and adjust the gain to not distort the sound.
Same for both decks.
In the settings set AUTOgain to always match. (sometimes you have to readjust the gain in VDJ)
the second step, if you get clean sound from vdj
use the monitor or prelisten features of your mixer so it will display you the input signal strength
od the level meter. Adjust the gain to be around 0db in peaks.
Adjust EQ on mixer to your wish

Hi Leon
First of all you need to be using VDJ Pro for this.
Second can you post more information on the other equipment you are using. For example External sound card? Desktop or laptop? PC or Mac? You get the idea.
I have to know your setup if I am going to be able to help you.
Cheers
