1) The HC4500, is this just a midi controller or can it take an external hard drive too?

The HC4500 is a MIDI controller only, but it can be linked to an optional BU4500 CD drawer unit which also turns it into a standard dual CD player. You can switch between the two on the fly, making it a good backup solution (You can have a CD ready to play.) If used with the Denon X500 or X900 mixer, you can also use the X-control feature to link the crossfader for video crossfading using the mixer's real crossfader.
DNX-1600 is MIDI capable, so can be mapped to control any feature in the software.
