Topic: Latency Checker question for PC & Hardware tweaking

I just bought a new laptop Fujitsu Amilo PI 3560 running on Windows 7 64 bit

NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 240M (with 1 GB VRAM), 500GB hard disc capacity, 4 GB memory.

Now I've gone through the fine tuning as per several guides on this site to run VDJ 6.1


My question is I ran DPC Checker yesterday and the graph is hitting 14900! I've read that guys on here have had theirs running around 800 to 1000.

Answer me this........ are you getting the 800-1000 when running no applications like VDJ?

The only time the latency is in this part of the graph is when it's running VDJ!

Is that normal? I would have thought with no apps running the graph would be lower.

Am I not understanding something here!??!

I think even 800 - 1000 is bad. Try disabling the wifi, bluetooth, onboard nic and cutting down on any unneeded processes/services. If you're experiencing worse dpc latency when your computer is idle it may be related to power savings (specifically nvidia powermizer) - try changing your power settings to high performance.

I've posted in another thread in the software forum where there theres a topic about latency.

I have norrowed it down to the graphics card. Even with an updated driver I hit 4000 but when running VDJ it drops to around 400 max.
 
i have the same thing happen to my new super up laptop. dpc is 2000+ until i open up VDJ then it goes down to 200-400. i noticed when trouble shooting if i disabled the nvidia driver in the task manager my DPC even goes down to 50 -100. as soon as i reactivate the nvidia driver latency back up. spent hours on the phone with Dell tech support to correct the issue but nothing helped. as soon as i disabled nvidia driver no problems, enable nvidia drive latency spikes. i figure if it doesn't do it when the programs running the heck with it. i have updated bios, the nvidia update from Dell actauly made it worse, go figure

If it's a Dell, maybe you are faced to the famous ACPI issue. Dell always refused to confirm it in the past (in the same way as Apple lol).

Try saving that into a file with a ".reg" extension and importing it into your registry. It will disable powermizer (your battery life will definitely be worse) but your graphics card should stay in 3d mode and result in lower DPC latency. You'll need to manually browse the registry subkeys to find what value to replace 'this-id-will-vary' with.
 
Most modern graphics cards have a problem with 2d programs that require a high level of performance, like VDJ. Check on Toms Hardware for an explanation of some of the recent problems.

Reading on the Nvidia 'Problem' forum they advised not to disable the Powermiser as it will over heat the latop. Apparently it gets very very hot! ??!
 
Hmm, that may be true for some of the old cards - there was a widespread problem with the Go 8x00 series a couple of years ago. But even video mixing in Virtual DJ isn't that intensive for the GPU compared to a 3d game; unfortunately the problem is most likely to do with the Nvidia driver, if you disable it in device manager and run the DPC latency checker you'll probably be in the green for hours as with djsynystr's results.
