Like the title says, I need some input. The owner of the club I spin at just purchased NS7FX and wants me to use it instead of my tables (which is cool cause it is the NS7FX, but sucks cause I love my Technics and RMX setup that I have mapped out now). I need to know what you guys have messed with, tweaked, etc. for optimal performance, I have looked in the wiki and didn't see any setup info as well as did a search which came up with nothing as well.
I plan on remaping some buttons on the NS7 as well as the NSFX part of it as well, but that is neither here nor there. I just need to know what settings you guys are using to get it to perform "flawlessly" with VDJ (I put flawlessly in quotes cause NOTHING is flawless in real life, lol). Like should I install ITCH...don't install ITCH, what settings should I activate/turn off etc. Here are my system specs to maybe help you guys out.
HP Pavilion DV5-1125nr entertainment notebook
4GB ram
AMD Turion X2 Dual-core mobile RM-72 2.1 Ghz Processor
Window Vista Home Premium SP1 (64 bit)
Thanks in advance
Michael

If you put a search in it will come up with dozens of posts here, the tech and in the hardware forums, you will get all the info you will need.

I tried searching for "NS7 setup" and "NS7 setting" and even just NS7 and came up with a bunch of threads from back when VDJ 6.0.5 and .0.7 were out. But nothing really saying anything about if I should install or not install ITCH as well as what settings they are running. I will search again and see what comes up but input in this thread would be much appreciated as well. Too much info is never a bad thing, lol.

yep, well my laptop HATES the NS7. Latency problems out the ass. I tried every single possible setting I could think of and still no dice. Some helped for a min or two but after that right back to it. Guess I get to have TWO gig laptops...yay.

Yea, 512 is the lowest I can get. I even built a dedicated "gaming" desktop. Seems as though deselecting Keylock and setting the RPM to 33 is the only thing that helps me. That is the only time I can get below 512 that is. Hope that helps.

The NS7 consumes lots of resources. Not all computers run well with it.

Thanks, specifically, what latencies can you run though? I am considering buying a Mac but not for a small increase in performance.

In VDJ? If so, do you use keylock?

i use keylock all the time

Just checking, do you run the NS7 and VDJ 6.X with a latency of 1? I forget the steps, but I ask again because I think that a latency of "1" is only an option in Itch.
My latency/performance issues are only with VDJ. I can run allot lower settings in Itch, I just don't like it. If you can run VDJ 6.X with the NS7 and the lowest latency setting with no issue, I will be going with MAC!

I run a hp envy 15
4gb of ram
intel i5 2.4 ghz
windows 7 professional 64 bit
I own a ns7fx and run it with this setup and let me say it works flawlessly with my setup i can put it at the highest performance setting and it will work without a glitch. There is no latency problems or problems with the sound glitching out or getting distorted. With that said it works well with my setup and you seem to have a similar setup so it should work. But I did have problems at first but once i installed the 64 bit drivers it worked better but still had some problems for some reason through i set virtual dj to restore to factory settings and then for some reason it worked flawlessly but you should be able to run it fine if you install the 64 bit drivers and if you still have problems restore the settings worked for me because now i can run the ns7fx on the highest setting flawlessly

Good to know, thanks. Guess I am just kind of bitter as I have built a few good dedicated desktops (cheap ish). I was more wondering if Mac was the answer because most DJs can't believe I use windows. I want a new machine within the next couple months and just don't want to get burned. I know allot about PCs but almost nothing about Mac.
I can build a Windows 7 good desktop for about $900, but I will be pissed if it does not run the fastest settings flawlessly.

Hi,
may be you already know about it, but just in case... I have a DELL laptop and I was having latency issue. I found on the forum someone talking about DPC Latency Checker. This show a bar graph with your latency. Basically if you go beyong 1ms your music crap out.
So using that tool I started disabling various driver trying to find the guilty one. The worst one, so the first to disable is the battery manager. I don't know what the hell it is doing to monitor the battery, but it is the one causing the biggest latency. I also disable my wireless network driver when using VDJ.
I hope it will solve your problem, it solved mine with my USB soundcard and TCV.
Let me know if it helped.
Thanks

Thanks man, I have used that tool, but never thought to fool with the battery monitor. I will try that again tonight.
My wirless card is a big offender. I think my video card is the other oner. After 2 "Blue Screen" crashes, that is what my Windows logs tells me. The lower portion of the screen gets some scrambled "staticy" line through it every so often. I went looking for the lates driver (as this does not happen on the XP drive of that same machine, dual boot) and I already have it. I can't seen to find an older one, the newest driver is oviously not right.
I just feel like I am running on the ragged edge of working with that thing. Everytime I play live, it acts up (sound drops). 2 weeks ago I play 5 hours in automix and 1 with me mixing before the issue. I backed off on the latency (in the NS7 driver, VDJ set to auto) and only got 3 songs in this past Saturday! My deskiop is always rock solid and perfect. I just want to mix vdeo and I have no place for the keyboard and mouse when my NS7 is in the flight case and on a keyboard stand.
neither computer can get below 512ms witout distortion while using keylock. At 512, the desktop is perfect. I am trying to improve my skill (that is why I have an NS7) and with that kind of latency, I am having a hard time scratching into songs, etc.

So, no advancements with the old PCs. So I bought a new laptop, Sony Vaio with i7 1.7ghz, 6 gig ram, etc.
I see where the 1ms setting is now. That is in the VDJ performance settings (by slide bar). But I remember reading recently that Cstoll recomended only setting the latency in the NS7 control panel and leave the VDJ latency set to auto. I was using the NS7 control panel, like he recomended.
While I can't run it on the lowest setting, I think I can tweak 128 (4ms) to work for me. I still have some static when I turn keylock on, but I just got the new latop working an hour ago and my music is still on an external USB drive. So I will get it really set up and give it a good run tonight.
I can now scratch into tracks!
