Topic: Beat Mixing (Girl Talk) HELP - Equipment

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

I'm 100% new to DJ'ing. I have the VirtualDJ program and I've been messing around with it for about half a year now with a mouse and keyboard. I'm feeling really restricted and think it's time to move onto some actual equipment.

I really like beat mixing, I'm not HUGE into the scratching idea, I like fading in and out with effects more. But scratching does has its place at times. I really enjoy what Girl Talk has done, I like that style and I understand that is more of chopping music and pasting it back together, but I would like to do a little something like that on the fly. Not as advanced obviously.

A little idea of what I'm kind of wanting to do would be this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mD7dO_hWyS4

Here is my question. ------- What type of equipment should I start off with to be able to do a majority of whats going on here? I don't want to dump thousands of dollars into tools yet. I want to get the hang of one thing then move on and add. I'm looking for 1 single piece of equipment that I can plug into my lap top that allows me to experiment and make some good beat mixing.
- What do I need to buy?

Help me DJ's!

Not to shoot you down or sound mean, but it doesn't seem like you have a licensed copy (according to your forum status). You probably won't get much help on here and you may even notice some resent and anger from several users on this forum until you purchase a legal copy of the software - which is only $300 for the pro version. That might be a great first step.

I'm using a demo version of the program right now that I got from a friend. I still haven't decided if this is the right program for me to buy. I don't understand why someone would be mad about that.. You have paid good money for a good program, and I don't have all the same features. I'm sure once I get some equipment and see how it runs on the demo software, I'll move onto purchasing a pro copy.

Support from the community is provided largely from licensed users; these same users do not get paid for their contributions and may feel disrespected when someone who has obtained the software unlawfully asks for help they are not entitled to. The demo only lasts for 20 days, if you've been using it for 6 months you may have a failing CR2032 battery in your motherboard, perhaps get that checked - you'll know something is wrong because any secure sites you try to visit will throw up a certificate error because the data is wrong. Hmm..

Seeing as you're after a chopping/mixing style rather than turntablism a midi controller would suit you fine - if you do want to dabble with scratching then you'll want one of the higher models with touch sensitive jogwheels. I'm personally waiting until the VMS4 is released and then going to see if any local DJ stores have a unit to test and read the feedback from other members here before buying it. It comes with an edition of Virtual DJ too. Alternatives include the Vestax VCI-100/300 and for equipment without touch-sensitive jogwheels check out Hercules/Numark equipment.
