Hey fellow DJ's!
So I just got my first gig tonight, I went and played. It eventually became a somewhat good show, but I had a few technical problems.
My biggest one is the following:
There was 2 big speaker hook'd to a mixer, and from that mixer went a standard audio cable with a 3.5mm mono jackstick on the end. When I put the jackstick in my computer or in an iPhone, everything played fine. But when I put into my Hercules RMX (Output 1, used a Regular Jackstick -> 3.5mm Jackstick) Only one of the speakers was working.
I borrowed a laptop from another newbie-DJ friend of mine, who had purchased VDJ6 Pro, and I made sure that I had all the necessary drivers for my RMX installed.
How would I go about fixing this? All my settings are on "default" and I really have no idea this happened. Now my knowledge of the technical part of setting up a sound system is quite low, so this might be a stupid question, and I can't help there is some simple answer like "You used the wrong output" or "What you where trying to do is illogical, you need to bla bla bla..." or something like that.
Sorry for my poor English skills, any help will be very much appreciated :)
-Cheers!

Am i misunderstanding or did you only plug 1 lead into the RMX? shouldn't there have been 2!!! is that too easy and answer...or have i missed something?
I do my stuff on a Lappy and RMX and always plug 2 AV plugs (whether standard or Mono-jacks) from the AMP or mixing desk straight into the back ov the RMX.
oh and someone very wise told me on this forum just a coulpe ov months ago, that there are no stupid questions, only the ones you dont ask!!! wise words.
Glad you got an RMX, they are the "badgers-nadgers" so to speak, and sooo much fun!!!

We've had a similar problem on the Dutch forum where someone thought that with a headphoneadapter in one jack-output he would have a stereo signal. This one looks the same.
Every jack is a mono signal, so it's not weird you only had sound from one speaker. Tayla's picture should explain it all.
BTW: The signal from the jack outlets is too powerfull to use with a regular DJ-mixer. So that's why you better go for the cinch-connectors.

Yeah there was only 1 x 3.5mm jackstick going out of the mixer, which I just plugged into the Herculex RMX Output 1.
tayla
Well how am I supposed to do that? Do I need to buy 2 x (2 x phonostick -> jackstick) cables, and substitute it with the 1 x (4 x phonostick > jackstick) cable which already was there, so that I'll get 2 sticks to plug in my RMX? ... actually that does sound kind of logical....

Do you mean the chinch connector on the RMX or from the DJ mixer that was already there?
Thank you all very much for the help :)

Connecting the RMX to a mixer you need to use RCA cables when making a link, follow the above diagram, only use 1/4 jacks when making connections directly to an amp.

"Connecting the RMX to a mixer you need to use RCA cables when making a link, follow the above diagram, only use 1/4 jacks when making connections directly to an amp."
So let me get this straight.
The hook-up that was when I came: a cable from the DJ mixer, which turned 4 cinch sticks into a 3.5mm jackstick
What I did: Plugged the 3.5mm jackstick into my RMX output 1 (using a big jackstick -> small jackstick converter)
Now, it seems that I need 2 cables, which each connects to 2 cinch sticks to the RMX's outputs.
But do I need 2 cables with RCA->RCA which I can plug into Output 1-2 and Output 3-4 (cinch) on my RMX, or do I need 2 RCA ->Jackstick which I can plug into Output 1 and Output 2 (jackstick) on my RMX?
If I use the chinch Output 3-4, aren't thoose by default Headphone channels ?
Sorry if I might seem a bit slow on this part, I really haven't got much experience with the whole thing :)
Thanks in advance

No problems at all Mikkel, when I use an external mixer with the RMX i find it more convenient to also connect the RMX headphone output to it as well, this way when using the RMX with other inputs like cd players etc connected to the mixer you can use and hear all of them through one headphone.
So your set up should look like this...
VDJ Set up
go to config > sound set up
Inputs - None
Outputs - Head phones
Sound Card - RMX
RMX connections
You will need two rca to rca cables
Make your first connections between RMX 1 + 2 output to say channel 3 on the mixer
Make Second connections between RMX 3 + 4 output to say channel 4 on the mixer
Now if you also have cd players or any other external source connected up to the external mixer you can now mix/listen between all of the inputs just using the headphone output on the mixer.
Hope that explains it a little better for you, if you need any more help on this just pm me and i'll give you a contact link you can reach me on.

Question, when i play live i only use 1 set of RCA's (Mixer to RMX) yet in the diagram i see you suggest using 2 sets, howcome?

I use a 4 channel ext/mixer, this way I can hear any channel I want to mix in, even bringing over the headphone channel as well through the mix.

Are you sure the 3.5mm was mono? If it was mono regardless what connection you would have gone to the output should have hit bopth speakers. What you woudl have heard would have been a different matter...
In the standard configuration - Output+Headphones - Outputs 1&2 are your master pair. 3&4 are your headphones. Therefore you need to connect something to either the two 1&2 RCAs or the two 1&2 1/4" jacks and, sorry Tayla, the 1/4" jacks are not just for amps - I had this discussion recently on here, they are +10db rated, less than a CDJ-1000 (which I have been told is +16db), and can be used to connect to a mixer, this is now my standard configuration. Anyway, I digress...
Coming back on subject, if you only had the 3.5mm jack, converted to 1 single /4" jack, you would have only got 1 channel from the RMX. If the 3.5mm jack was mono, it should been picked up by both channels in the mixer/amp. If the 3.5mm jack was stereo it would have gone to just one speaker - which is what you describe.
Either way you need to get 1 of the following:
2 x RCA to female 3.5mm jack (stereo)
2 x 1/4" jack to female 3.5mm jack (stereo)
This will ensure both channels are routed from your RMX. Personally I would go the for 1/4" jack solution is this will give you extra volume through the mixer. The RCA's are set at home hifi levels. I'm guessing they differentiated the connectors to prevent bedroom DJ's blowing up their home hifi gear...
Cheers,
Roy

Tayla, are you telling me you have one channel on the mixer for the RMX output and another for headphones? This must mean you still mix using the RMX crossfader...
I use mine in external mixer mode. This means the left deck comes through outputs 1&2 and the right deck through 3&4. That way I can use the cue on the mixer selecting either or both channels and also use the crossfader on the mixer.
You have to disable the RMX crossfader in the VDJ config to prevent it cutting the volume to the decks itself, but this then frees up the RMX crossfader nicely for video...

Roy

Nice hey thanks for reply GadgetMan :)
But your getting me a bit confused here, what would I need "1/4" jack to female 3.5mm jack"?
My technical knowledge is very poor as of yet, so I think I'm getting a bit confused by all the terms xD
I normally DO use the RMX for the dj'in part, and nothing else, as I've just taken my first step outside the bedroom. I use both the crossfader and the default headphone input on the top of the controller for headphones. The external mixer, I only used to regulate the volume more precisely and use a michrophone which was already hook'd up to it.
Look I used a bit of my creative skills to make a MS Paint drawing of what exactly I'm dealing.
Thanks in advance!

Edit: Read through your post carefully one more time, I see you point now !
But will it work if I just get 2 x RCA -> 1/4" jack?
Then I could just unplug the Doubble-RCA to 3.5mm jack, and make 2 connections between the external mixer's 2 RCA, and the RMX channel 1 & 2 1/4" jack (I guess)

Hi,
From your diagram it looks like the left & right channels are being driven to a stereo 3.5mm jack. Due to the fundamental design of the jack, if you connect a stereo jack (male) to a mono socket (female) you will connect to both channels. Therefore the mixer would have received 2 channels and output to both speakers, but the input would have been from only ONE of your RMX channels.
I can't find a pic of an actual lead that you can buy so you may need to make one, or get one made. These two pics explain what I mean:
In this pic you can see the 3.5mm female that splits "Y" to two individual channels - this is the bit you're missing. This is what you need to make sure you get both channels 1&2 to connect to the mixer. However this lead splits to 3.5mm connectors.
So using this example, this connector would convert each 3.5mm jack to a 1/4" jack that you can plug in to outputs 1&2.
Hope this helps,
Roy

hi roy...
sorry Tayla, the 1/4" jacks are not just for amps - I had this discussion recently on here, they are +10db rated, less than a CDJ-1000 (which I have been told is +16db), and can be used to connect to a mixer, this is now my standard configuration. Anyway, I digress...
you must have missed the bit where it says 1/4" jack to rca's can be used then... lol
I'll not post anymore as the guy is now starting to get confused
plus the set up i use works just great for what i do,
