Hi All,
I hope I'm allowed to post this here, I realize this is more of a lap top issue than VDJ but since I use my lap top for VDJ :-)
I turned on my lap top this morning and noticed an "x" on my volume icon on the bottom right hand corner. When I put the mouse over it it reads "no audio output device is installed." When I right click it the option for "open volume mixer" is grayed out - it won't let me choose or open it. What the hell happened? I plugged in my external drive - opened up VDJ and corrected the settings (as I do when I am home so I can play and practice) thinking that may have something to do wtih it but it doesn't.
It may be something simple - if anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!

It means windows isn't seeing a valid sound output device. Either it isn't seeing a soundcard, or possibly that you have no headphones/speakers connected to it on a card that is capable of detecting connections.

Thanks but, do you have any advice on what to do? Pardon me but I'm not the most tech savvy person.

Hi All,
I know this isn't a VDJ issue but - my friend has tried everything he knows how to do to get the audio back on my lap top but to no avail. He tried disabling the sound drivers, re-installing them, re-install the operating system using recovery partition, re-installing original configured sound card drivers, installing or updated the latest version of bios (pardon my wording but I'm not tech savvy). So now the next step he plans to do is reinstall windows. If anyone has any advice or has ever had this problem please provide any info that may be helpful.
Thank you!

Not sure which version of Windows you are using, but you need to find the device manager. Usually by right-clicking on My Computer (Computer in Vista/W7) and choose "Manage" from the menu.
In the window that opens, open the devce list and search for your sound card. It should either appear as a supported device or with a yellow exclamation mark over the top of the device icon if there is an issue.
Worse still, if it doesn't appear I can only assume the sound card has packed up!
If the yellow icon appears, then double click on the device to get its properties. The first tab should tell you what the issue is. You shoudl also be able to start a troubleshooter from there.
However if it suddenly just stopped working one day, thin about what you did the day before? Did you install some hardware, make some changes??? You may need to rollback whatever you did.
Use System Restore to go back to the date (or a date before) when the system was working and try again.
Obviously if this doesn't work, then your sound card has failed some how. In this you may want to look at an external sound card if you can't warrant buying a new laptop.
Cheers,
Roy

Hi,
I am new to this forum. Once I had the same problem. Then I had found this site : www.noaudiooutput.com and I had found a suggestion that worked for me. There were many suggestion depending on different causes. If you are still without sound, visit the site and read all the details carefully and see if there is any that work for you.
