I have just installed VDJ 6.0.5 onto my backup laptop, a Pentium M 1.6 with 512MB of ram, 128MB shared to graphics so 384MB available to windows. I am using an EKS Otus for control and as a sound card.
When I load VDJ, the CPU goes to 100% and stays there while the VDJ window is visible. If I minimise VDJ, the CPU useage drops to around 50%. The only process using more than 10% CPU is virtualdj.exe and it is virtualdj.exe which goes to 100% with the VDJ window open.
With the window visible, VDJ acts like the CPU is overloaded. Tracks are slow to load and the screen refreshes slowly. When I minimise VDJ, tracks load at their normal speed and play ok.
Whenever I select ASIO as the sound output, VDJ crashes with a windows error saying that virtualdj.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.
This is a near fresh install of Windows XP SP3. I have had VDJ running on this laptop before I reinstalled windows. I might not have previously installed Version 6 though. I was most likely using version 5 on this laptop with the old XP install.
Please let me know if you have seen this or similar before or have any ideas I could try to get it running.
Thanks
Craig

Don't run the window maximised, run it as a window :)

If you need a bigger skin to fill your screen, please download a custom one from http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/skins.html that more closely matches your screen's native resolution.

Thanks SBDJ. Running windowed works. I have installed my Virtual Vinyl soundcard which is working and should do me for my gig tonight. I'll try to work out more tomorrow.

Why NOT run the window maximised?
Why have a capability of maximising a window if you can't maximise it? I'm serious.
Why should a person be stuck using a relatively ultra low resolution skin (this is 2010, NOT 2001) in order to use VDJ? Prior to purchasing VDJ, I didn't see any disclaimer that said "not to be used with a screen resolution higher than 1280 x 1024."
What if I'm using a 22" monitor? Do you really expect me to use 1/4 of my screen for VDJ and look at the rest of my screen as wasted desktop?
What is the problem with using a larger screen and why does it seem to be such a resource HOG if a skin is maximised?
It seems there are SO many unanswered questions. I have tickets with weeks worh of unanswered questions and it seems I am NOT the only one.

Did you enjoy that little rant?
Because some systems don't cope well with the resizing method presently used by VDJ, resulting in the CPU doing the work and thus higher CPU usage.
There are plenty of skins available in higher resolutions, and there is even an offline skin resizer that allows you to stretch a skin to fit a resolution with no runtime CPU usage. I for example use a skin running at 1920x1200 that fills my screen perfectly. It's not a resized skin, so all the controls look and work perfectly, I get lots of screen space and a nice large browser.
Perhaps if you asked those questions on here they might get answered, just like this one has been. It's been no secret regarding running maximised with some systems, and it's always been best to run a skin with the same resolution as the screen resolution you are using.

PM sent to you SBDJ.
No, rants and frustration are not fun or enjoyed.
If your response to me was not simply condescending in nature, perhaps you will respond to my PM.

PM read and acknowledged.
I'm just a volunteer, I don't work for Atomix. If you really felt my post warranted the PM you sent then that's your prerogative - most people probably would have told you to go away.
If you calm down and treat me like a reasonable person then I'm more than willing to help.

Dude
I tried my best to help you.
Our developer Stef Clavel requested I release your ticket so he could handle it personally and I thought he had.
I track every ticket I answer till its put to bed.
And as for the "support on vacation" thread, I do this 7 days a week and that specific user had a problem with a sl1 Serato card which by their own admission is not 64 bit compatible. So how is that a VDJ support problem? Take that shot at us if you want, it does not help your case when you do.
Now you may not like the logic based answer I am going to give you, but:
1) You ARE the only one with this VM leak problem regardless of how many others are complaining about freezing. Yes your problem is associated with a memory leak associated with the video panel of the skin, and again you are the only one reporting that. The problem could very well be on your pc.
2) If this was a problem across the board with the software we'd have thousands of dj's experiencing this and we do not me included with 3 or 4 different machines I work across.
3) At this point a different test machine is in order to isolate the one you are on as part of the problem here like it or not, that's logical process of elimination.
4) Keep your answers to development's questions simple and do not include the frustrating notations, it contributes nothing and does not speed up the process.
None of us like it when things are problematic, but be sure of yourself when placing blame.
I cannot answer for others as for why this has not been addressed and I could have ignored this but decided to give you a reply.
Again, when it gets this crazy, a different test machine is the next logical step even if its not your own.
People who are trying to help you do not deserve private messages.
Private messages are just that, private.
These people volunteer their time and do not deserve to be slapped around, save that for me or cstoll.
In the meanwhile I will bring this to the attention of development who was working on this problem for you.
When it gets to the point that our developer takes a ticket, it is beyond the normal problem solving abilities of support teamers.
If it were me and I had gigs and my gear of software was failing me, I'd be finding new gear to test on to insure that half of the equation was not causing the problem rather than handling it this way.

Mr. Hodgkins,
Thank you for the reply and FINALLY supplying SOME information in acknowledging there is a memory leak in the skin. This is the first you have admitted that.
I am NOT the only one experiencing MEMORY LEAK.
I LEARNED about MEMORY LEAK from other posters in VDJ's General Discussion Forum. I learned about the program called "Memory Improve Master" due to others having memory leak problems in VDJ's forums. That program addresses the memory leak problem in RAM, but NOT in the Virtual Memory File as I identified. Other people have posted that information in the General Discussion Forum as well. I have spent countless hours doing additional testing and reporting to you and Mr. Clavel regarding my findings, yet, never received a single answer from you or Mr. Clavel what all of those crash reports even meant.
I have BEGGED for a response on my ticket issues in my ticket and it has gone unanswered. I have gone an additional two weeks now with no response to help me in my ticket. YOU told me to NOT say anything (shut me up) in the boards when you gave me the Beta. Is my frustration with VDJ tech support unwarranted at this point? I don't believe so when I BEG for a response and receive NONE.
Perhaps other people are not reporting the memory leak information to VDJ bacause perhaps they don't know any better or even how to identify it. Perhaps many people don't even report the video freeze or complain about the "recover splash screen with yellow smiley" popping up all the time because they think it is normal or perhaps they are afraid of getting blacklisted from receiving ANY support at all from seeming condescending responses from tech support, if they get any response at all.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to this.
Thanks SBDJ and jpboggis. I have downloaded the Consolidated skin and now VDJ is working happily in full screen mode. I think that running in naitive res is easing the load on my main laptop as well. I'm still working out my performance settings on my new laptop so I might be back with another thread if I can't work it out (crackling).
I have found that ASIO works in Ultra-Latency mode but not in normal mode. I don't know why this might be but it works so I'm happy.
Thanks Guys
Craig

I install a brand new XP Pro SP3 (Original) on a 2009 Toshiba AMD Dual Core and ATi Radeon, 3gb ram, 250g hd and 256 VideoCard. Everything is perfect with the Windows; drivers, setting, Directx, boot, ect ect(I have never see a faster XP Pro in my life) AND for the first time to me, after all of that, I install My VV 6.0.7, and is always in 50% CPU! I have been using this software in other PC and Laptop this never happend to me before. I can't play like this, and need my CPU in 5-7% like before.

So VDJ is running in a window now and you still get 50% CPU used by VDJ without video active and no tracks loaded?

hi,
I've been using VDJ 6 / Hercules Rmx / AMD acer 2.10ghz 4gb ram for about 6 months. Everything was working great up until a couple of weeks ago. Now VDJ is running at full cpu usage when i try and load tracks or try to load tracks when another is running.
i never had a problem with running the skin at full size and even with an external hard drive connected to expand my library, there was no slow down.
i've cleaned up vista, disabled unnecessarystart up progs, cleaned up my hdd, run a defrag and checked for any viruses.
yet after all these steps, i cant seem to suss out whats brought about this high cpu usage. i just cant understand why its worked fine for months, now has decided to run so high.
Any ideas? thanks in advance.

I use the Hercules RMX with VDJ 6.07 on a Lenovo T-61p with XP sp3. The computer has a 500 GB HD, an Intel Core Duo processor T7500(2.2GHz), 4 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz front-side bus with 2 GB of RAM. When I increase the size of the VDJ's screen to full, the on-screen activity "stutters" (as in very short term freezing) and doesn't keep up with real-time action on the Hercules RMX. My machine far exceeds the VDJ's recommended system requirements. What's the issue and how may I fix it? THANX! -Steve

As has been said many times in this thread, don't click the maximize button to stretch your skin to fill the screen. On some systems this causes excessive CPU utilisation.
The best solution is to run a skin the uses the same resolution as your screen is running at.

Thanks for everything. The problem is solved, it was the Display Driver. Toshiba don't have a Display Driver for XP for my model (Satellite L305D-S5934) and in the ATI Web only give me a software with the generic driver. Just put back the Factory OS (Vista) and eveything is back to normal...
