Hi guys just a quick question. I'm upgrading my laptop so that i can ditch lugging a pc around with me for playing videos. I will be running dual monitors off the new laptop (for videos) I need something fairly decent. I was looking at the one below or a i7. Can someone help me, is the i5 the best way to go or do i get a hot dual core for around the same money? http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5740_701654.html
Many thanks

I will be building a rack mount sometime spring when seasonal business picks up at the shore and I have been debating the same thing.

My Best recommendation Ian, is to wait untill the Video Freeze issue get's fully addressed in the next release to see what specifications and operating system are VDJ friendly for Video mixing and which are not, before you make a decision to purchase, save yourself some grief and wait.

My recommendation is, if you are serious about doing video, don't use a laptop. Renee', AMaHM, DiscoBrian (one of the other mods here), Marcel, chucknorrisyouwhimps and many others who do nothing but video swear by either building a shuttle PC or, building a rack mounted PC. Most of them will tell you they rarely use their video PCs for anything else. Having a dedicated, none laptop, computer has more advantages than I can list here. That being said, the rather obvious advantage is (to me anyway), if your having issues with your video card, you can change it out faster, and cheaper, than buying a new laptop.....

Hi guys thanks for your replies, I'm only running 10 - 20 vids a night, Mostly i just have my logo displayed on the monitors. My current pc runs vids with ease. I can have 2 vids running and it only uses one bar on the cpu meter in VDJ. I haven't had any probs with videos freezing. I though maybe an i5 laptop would be able to cope with the odd video here and there. I have a laptop stand that clips to my flight case and prefer to use a laptop rather than taking a pc, monitor, keyboard and mouse to each venue.
Was hoping someone here had an I5/I7 laptop and could tell me how it runs with vids and VDJ in general.
Cheers
Ian

the exact reason why I will be building one, had been just wondering which processor would be better, leaning with the i7-950
