Topic: Ns7 with subwoofer

Hi
Iam looking to add a powered subwoofer to my current setup. I have a qsc amp that the ns7 plugs into via xlr cables and the amp powers my yamaha s115v speakers. Now if I buy a active subwoofer, the Ns7 has RCA outputs, would I be able to just plug in to the subwoofer via the RCA cables and be ready to play? Is it that easy to add a active subwoofer to your setup if it is a powered sub (I am thinking about spending around 800-1000 dollars) Im a mobile dj so the less things I have to connect the better. Also if u do just need to plug in to the active sub and ur ready to go, should the power handling of the sub match or surpass my current amp, as to not damaged because the output from the ns7 will be same going to the current amp and to the future active sub. any idea, suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Most amps will have thru outputs, you need to use that to the sub also most active subs will filter out the unusable frequencies.

thanks guys, so simply, plug straight into the sub from the ns7 via the cable mentioned above, u ready to go, no need for extra amp or cross over

I would suggest that you plug the XLRs from the ns7 into the subs inputs, then use the subs "Through" connections to take the signal to your amp for the full range speakers. That way you'll be dealing just with balanced signals (less interference better sound) and also...

Turn on the "high pass to through" switch on the sub and that will filter out the lowest frequencies from your full range amp and speakers (the frequencies that the subwoofer will produce) so you'll get better performance from your speakers.

Hope that's clear, just let me know if not and I'll try and explain it better! :-)

Hi Andy,
The first paragraph made sense to me, the second one "Turn on the high pass to through" I really did not fully understand.

the best way I use the sub woofer is the XLR or rca to yamahas and only run my mids and highs to those speakers,
Then I run the rca Booth to my sub so i have full control over my lows-- hope this helps
aloha,
Jason

forgot some info for you: I run my NS7 Main out to KRK Roket6 studio speakers and my booth I run to my KRK 10" Sub, i use rca to 1/4" adaptor for my sub - the active sub has a volume control on it. just play with the volume on sub to see what works for you and your music.
