wow so many problems today..

i have 2 sets of carts,

1 set stanton 500 mk2 in gemini headshells
1 set ortofon concorde dj s

so a few mins ago i was testing the concordes as ive not used them yet. and i discovered that there is something wrong with my stantons or headshells.

i connected my turntable to my mixer and plugged it into my amp. all leads red to red and white to white. setup my concordes and scratched my timecode signal for a bit. everything worked as it should.

so next i decided to see if there was much difference between the concordes and stantons, sound reproduction wise.

to my surprise there was no signal, just lots of humming. i changed my stylus to some brand new ones and i still got the same result.

next i swapped over the phono lead so i had red to white and white to red. doing this produced a signal but still had some humming in the background.

i checked the connections on my headshells and both are wired up correctly. well colour wise anyway. when daz kindly donated me the stantons (thanks daz) i disconnected the gemini carts from the cart only and reconnecte with the stantons. i didd'nt take any of the wires off the headshell. just rematched colour for colour.

so it seems to me that the headshells with the stantons are wired up wrong, but im not to sure how and why.

could someone please help me with sorting this out. a link to a guide or something would be great. but i would also like to know why they are acting as they do. the concordes are sealed units so they obv aint wired wrong lol.

anyway thanks in advance.

john

oh and when i use the concordes, i get silence once the cart is tightened to the tone arm. with the gemini heads and stanton carts, there is a constant humming sound.
