Is it better to set the deck gain at 50% or each track at 0 gain?

it just depends on your A) song volume setting, B) your over all mix, C) volume of prev played song..
 
I mainly seeking gain advice for optimal recording.

When I am recording a mix on my RMX, I have each deck volume maxed as well as the master volume.

The respective gains for each track used are not homogeneous, so I am wondering if playing everything at 50% gain is ideal?
 
if in recording i wouldnt suggest maxing, could cause major distortion during playback..

i would say do a sample
 
48% - 50% overall gain seems to be working fine after listening to a few recorded samples
