Hi
I installed vdj 6.0.3 and i can't sort by filedate.
i've look in the changelog : -fixed no long sort on filedate
But now it wont sort at at by filedate, no matter if 10 tracks less or more.
Big issue for me cause i have main song folder with 8 000 tracks, i use filedate to get play new ones when it's crowded in the club, not im pretty f##$ed to find them now.
anyone can help me ?

You can no longer sort by file date. It created a performance issue since the data was read from the file and not stored in the database.
You should use the column First Seen instead. This is the date of when you added the files to VirtualDJ ... so you would always be able to seen your NEW tracks based on when you added them.

I have about 5000 songs, but they are in folders by year. That makes it easier to find and you can set up VDJ to auto add a song to the DB when added to that sub-folder.
Having 8000 files in one folder is never a good thing.

C-stoll, I sort by firstseen all the time but I have songs that randomly become a very recent firstseen even though they have been entered months ago. their firstseen date just changes to a more current date). Also, I lose bpm data randomly on songs once in a while, and when I have to rescan them they all become first seen as of that newly rescanned date. As you know, this ruins any filter folder using "firstseen", and doesn't help much when I sort by firstseen either.
I didn't mean this to be a hijack of this thread but thought it was relavant info to add to his predicament.
In another post I DID ask if some of these database "weird things" were improved or "fixed" or at least "worked on" in VDJ6.03??
Were they?

i need to sort my files by file date, so this is another hand, or can you put this option in the registry tool to give the uses who use this option a lot like e and some others

I agree with you and I do have the same issue as you wrote.

As I posted before ... the file date sort was stopped because of performance issues ... now do you want the risk of crashes and working on pins and needles or stability ? I think the majority would say 'stability'.
There are so many other options you could utilize like the comment field, genre, album, even putting annotations as part of the title.

Saving the filedate in the database won't change anything as it's read in real-time.
We have decided to focus on stability with this version 6.0.3 as requested by users so a decision had to be taken and that's it.

You could use one of the other spare fields, perhaps you can get software to export the filedate to text and put it in a spare field?

which way?

There are programs which convert filenames to MP3 tags. You could see if any of them will pull in the filedate as a field. I'm sure it's possible to do if you have a look at what's out there.

Try using the First Seen field.

As bryantpb wrote, filedate and first seen are NOT the same.
Using first seen, in my case happens, like so in bryantpb's case, even if I have scanned and played one song many months ago, after a while (one month, two months, 6 or more: I don't know what it does come from), this song lose the first seen key and I canNOT recognize when I played this song the first time. I hope that's clear.

I agree, please, give us a possibility to reactivate it. how to understand that instead of finding a solution to a bug you prefer to remove an important function... !?!?
Sort by first seen is not good, some of my files have just no date ? like they have never been seen !

That is with me too, in addition to the other database oddities I have mentioned here before.

If there is no date in the column "filedate" for some files, it means these files don't exist anymore (=vdj can't find a file as the current filepath). So you have to do a Check/Clean in the VDJ config -> browser
