My Numark DXM06 Mixer has a "balanced" output with 1/4" jacks, any idea what they're for?

Balanced
Balanced connections employ three conductors, one for the positive and one for the negative phase of the signal, and one for the ground. This ensures maximum protection against hum and interference and line level loss and also against resistance changes over long lenghts of wire run. Balanced Cables are far superior to Unbalanced and can run wire lenghts of 100ft or more with any audio signal quality loss
Unbalanced
Unbalanced connections employ two conductors, one for the signal and the other for the ground, and are much more subject to hum and interference than balanced connections. Consumer equipment generally uses unbalanced connections. anything over 12 ft and there is definite signal quality degredation.
For your mixer, you are much better off to get yourself a good balanced cable output to yuor amps .. and especially if your running powered speakers you have to use Balanced cables or what some call (XLR CABLES) -- even though you dont have an actual xlr connection the connection on your mixer is the same it is called TRS tip ring sleve conection whic is same as an xlr , you can go to a music center or online and get a TRS to xlr to plug into your amplifier. I promise if you do so you will notice a difference in sound quality and def less hum
this is the cable you need most likely
