Topic: Dr. Dre designed a laptop...

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

....OK, I'm sure he didn't design it but, he had his hands in creating this one. It has that logo the headphones he designed on it, and supposedly it has an advance sound card in it. The price is a bit steep for my taste at 2300 USD. I've been saying for years we need some forward thinking company to make a laptop for the working DJ. Maybe this is the first step in that direction.

I'm not sure. It's probably just the HP Envy with Beats branding. The price is high as it's a very high spec machine, possibly not because it's made out of particularly durable materials:

# Processor: Intel Core i7-720QM 1.6 Ghz, 6MB L2 cache
# Memoria: 4GB DDR3 su un unico banco Memory: 4GB DDR3 on a single chassis
# Schermo: 15,6" retroilluminato a LED Display: 15.6 "LED backlit
# Scheda video: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830 con 1 GB di memoria dedicata Video card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830 with 1GB of dedicated memory
# Hard disk: SATA 320GB a 7200RPM Hard drive: SATA 320GB 7200RPM
# Networking: LAN 10/100/1000, WLAN 802.11 a,g,n, Bluetooth Networking: 10/100/1000 LAN, WLAN 802.11 a, g, n, Bluetooth
# Interfacce: 2 x USB, 1 x HDMI, 1 x combo eSata + USB, 1 x RJ45, Headphone/Mic combo jack Interface: 2 x USB, 1 x HDMI, 1 x combo eSata + USB, 1 x RJ45, Headphone / Mic combo jack
# Batteria: a 6 celle Battery: 6 Cell
# Dimensioni: 38.0 cm x 24.4 cm x 2.65 cm Size: 38.0 cm x 24.4 cm x 2.65 cm
# Peso: 2,35Kg Weight: 2.35 kg
# Sistema operativo: Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
# Altro: touchpad Multi-Gestures Others: Multi-Touchpad Gestures

edit: on the other hand, perhaps you are right, would be good if the product lives up to the marketing:

"HP Envy includes the latest in materials and technology inside and out and pushes the technological and performance boundaries of what can be done in sleek, powerful and lightweight notebook PCs," said Ted Clark, senior vice president and general manager, Notebook Global Business Unit, Personal Systems Group, HP. "Discerning consumers will get a premium experience and performance."

But this applies to the Envy line in general. The beats branding is probably just 100% pure marketing, George Foreman grill? Good product, but it's the name that sells it.

Interesting to see they're going 64-bit although no suprise, this thing can take upto 16GB ram apparently. Hopefully more gear manufacturers will adopt 64-bit.

My Rig is far better (Although not a laptp)

2.4 Ghz AMD Athlon (Dual Core)
4GB Ram
8800 GTX, 780MB Gfx Card
900Watt PSU

Ugh. With all this pricy new kit for DJ types coming out, it makes me wonder if there's an ultra rich dj market out there that I'm not aware of. Two DVJ's and that pioneer video mixer - sure, I've got 15k to throw.

So is this going to be better than Macbook Pro?

dannyboy dre's icore7 1.6 will run circles round your amd duo 2.6

better than a Macbook pro.. ? No way. filmakers, Artist, Editors, Producers, All use mac's for a reason.

I don't think it will live up to the expectations. HP doesn't have the best reputation when it comes to laptops. Especially the TX series.

They use G5 Power Macs, not Macbook Pro. But yeah, those Macs are sweet machines.

G5 is the desktop ? From PC to Mac.. Im still getting the hang of it.

Seems like pricy marketing gimmick. It's just a high-end HP (yuck!) laptop with some bundled DJ-software. There isn't any mentioning how the operating system is optimized to increase performance and stability. Most likely it's bundled with crapware like every other OEM-Windows installation.

For me personally, the fact that it is running any kind of Windows is enough for me to not desire it :)

As a onetime designer of Laptops for Acer, it is very unlikely that this is a new company. The cost of designing and manufacturing a Laptop is far beyond the range of most DJ companies. The investment in plastic molds, PCB’s and components is a very expensive task.
It is more likely that he partnered with a current Laptop builder to design a system with their current components and technology.

It's an HP laptop, there's no attempt to hide it - it has HP and Beats branding. More specifically, it's a Voodoo-HP laptop.

It has nothing on a Macboook Pro. Although I mean the 17" version priced at 2,800. Runs both Windows and OS X. Beat that Dre. If Apple starts designing laptops with Dre, Im going to shoot my self.

The specification is a lot higher than a macbook pro and no computer which doesn't come from Apple can legally run OS X due to Apple, well... due to Apple being Apple.

all this talk about mac the only thing it has going for it is the OS! the problem with pc is many of the pc makers are just too slow to makeing everything 64bit.all you mac lovers many of the parts in a mac are of pc makers! welcome to intel! ATI! need i say more? and next year apple will be useing AMD Processors.

Besides CPU and graphic card which may be the same can Apple use better components such as motherboards, controllers that is not used by the majority of laptop makers? Is there still a difference on hardware level that will affect performance? For example, for recording musicians Macbook was the first choice for a long time when it comes to laptops because of problem-free high quality controllers for firewire audio interfaces. I'm still waiting for a decent PC laptop that can do the same.
And just for the record I don't own a Mac. I'm using Dell desktop for VDJ and music recording.
