When you say you got a complete sound stop, what exactly do you mean? Did the system freeze? Was VDJ still responding to mouse or RMX control?
If you play a bad track, you should see an exclamation mark (!) beside the BPM count, meaning there is either too much noise in the track or it's a corrupt file.

Sounds a bit like the usb dropout problem. Are the decks still playing but no sound comes out. If so, various things have been suggested. Adding a UPS pretty much fixed my issue unless there is really bad power at the venue. Others have had success adding good quality USB cables with ferritte cores on the cable to act as filters. Search USB dropouts and I'm sure you'll find it.

Here's one of the links to a usb dropout discussion: http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/111094/General_Discussion/USB_dropout_complete_disaster_.html?search=ferrite&page=1
From your description it does sound like your RMX lost connection to your laptop (even briefly). So either a usb dropout due to power issues or simply a loose connection between your laptop and RMX. If your connection between laptop and rmx is broken, this will also render your ipod useless if looped through your rmx. (Another good reason to have your backup hooked-up to an external mixer!).
On the corrupt tracks, yes, the exclamation mark will remain once it's been identified as a bad track. Your solution here is to either re-rip the tracks from cd again or re-download from source. (There are ways to convert, but usually involve some level of loss in sound quality, so best to go back to your source).
In any event, I doubt if it was a bad track that caused your issue.
Just out of curiosity, does this happen at the same or different venues and has this only started recently?

djigma thats the first time ive had just a sound dropout so maybe my usb lead came loose or something.i always use the same usb ports for my rmx,hds ect.will a powered usb port make much of a difference.also get sound glitches every now and again and never change latency settings.as i said dont do video only clips and karaoke so if you have advice for latency settings i will try them out.i run a rgistry programme every time before a gig and the dpc latency checker never spikes when i run it.

Check your rmx lead going into your laptops usb port - if you've too much play, you may well be getting disconnects here. With music playing and your rmx connected, try twitching your lead and see if you get the same "no sound" result.
If using many usb ports, a powered usb hub may help. I only ever use 2: mouse and rmx so have never had to resort to using a hub.
There are a few tried and tested performance setting that have been recommended here many times. Start with these:
1. Make sure you're using ASIO mode and try increasing your ASIO buffer slightly (it's in the RMX control panel)
(If you tick the "Apply EQ" setting, it will force ASIO mode...)
2. In the Performance tab, set the slider closer to Fastest
3. Change Latency to Auto (from the drop down)
4. Uncheck both Safe mode and Overclock
With ASIO buffer size and the Performance tab slider, start with small changes, until you get the result you want.
Hopt this helps...

You're more likely to get latency issues when running software like VDJ or other audio/video multi-tasking applications that have a lot going on and demand good responsiveness from a system, than something that changes registry settings. (Why do you need to run a registry program before every gig?)
May seem like a silly comment, but when running the latency checker I assume you have VDJ running, to give you a full picture...

no dont run vjd but i will now lol and let you know.i just got so used to running registry programme to see if ive done something wrong the day before or if i have a bad file on my system.
