Has anyone found a Replacement bulb for DJ lighting that is LED?

I have a couple of older lights that take Halogen bulbs and I wanted to retro-fit them to LED bulbs if possible. I've been surfing for a while and found lots of replacement bulbs but not sure if they are compatible.

Anyone else have experience with this?

My lighting guy, an AmericanDJ dealer, tells me to keep buying the older style bulbs Marcel. He like the LEDs but, the throw falls off steeply after a few yards. Just sharing my knowledge with you...

LED's also make people look terrible, especially drag queens-lol They do not give off a natural light & are very harsh, especially on performers. Not that they don't have a purpose in life, but I have seen them in a few clubs and they look terrible. Color wash bars and the like are however tres kewl!

It's just some old Moonflowers and derbys/mushrooms that are kicking around.

I was trying to save some money and not purchase the LED versions of these effects.

Might just break down and buy them though

When I first saw the thread, that's what I thought, Marcel...That you were just looking for LED replacements because they last so darn long, and they can be kicked around (and put away "hot") without damage ;)

When LED lights first came out, I thought - FANTASTIC!!!

But what manufacturers have brought out - some are a hit some are a miss.

Moonflowers - Miss, forget the spots , all I ever wanted was the rotating colour wheel (isn;t that the whole point of a moonflower?

Barrel scans - These rock. Spots and all
Derby/mushrooms/kintas - Good (finally)
I've even seen tri-angle mirrors and convex mirrors

There's a selection of of moonflowers and scanners that are single LED, rotating wheel Lighting. Perfect.

ADJ has come out with some new stuff that is very impressive as well. Although a club I work in bought 4 of the moving head LED light and 1 did not even turn on.
Strange because I can buy LED bulbs of most any other application

Thanks for the info, man (:^D)

LEDs have come a long way, but they aren't practical for long throws yet. Here in Chapel Hill though, they have converted all of the street lights to LED and they are pretty bright. Also, I recently had the privilege of testing a prototype studio LED panel that lets you dial in any color in the spectrum with a digital read-out for color temp. and intensity. Pretty cool stuff. There is a lot of research going on for this technology, but we may have to wait another year or so for the really good ones.

Man... You guys need to see my light setup! All I EVER use besides lasers is LED lights. I came from the old skool when we had no choice but to deal with halogen bulbs that either burnt out too quick, tripped breakers constantly at venues or both!

Back when there was no LED I worked some of the biggest venues in L.A. and partied in clubs in Vegas, Chicago, Milwaukee, Seattle, San Francisco, Miami and Europe just to name a few, so I know what good lighting should look like.

I use ADJ Vertigo Tri-LEDs, Jewel LEDs and Chauvet Derby & Kinta X's and VUE VI (6.1) plus the UV LED washes and strobes. I have never been complimented on lighting more in my 25 years than with these lights. They offer true beauty in lighting and will likely never burn out or trip breakers. My Chauvet VUE 6.1 is so bright that I rarely use it. It is really overwhelming!

I don't know why some of you guys are knocking LEDs but my experience has been a very positive one.

I'm not bashing LED's I love them to death. I am disappointed that I cannot find replacements to the Halogen bulbs in LED form. I can find them for everything else.

Home lights
Auto service trouble lights
Headlights
Taillights and markers
Yard lights

Everywhere except for our applications.

The biggest gripe IO have about LED lighting is Why didn;t the manufactures just simply replace the lightbulb with a single led in the simpler effects?

In the more complex colour mixing stuff I understand.

I remember seeing that Osram made replacment LED bulbs for effects, I had a look on their site and through google and can't find them now.

I could do with trying them out too.

i own HID lights, Halogen Lights, Scanners, Hazers, LED lights ETC. like rude said i seem to get more compliments on my lighting now that i started using LED effects. my normal wedding light setup consists of an LED Revo 3, LED Mystic, LED Star ball, 2 Led UV Par Cans (black lights), and a Hazer. that setup right there can cover a gymnasium with light. i run them stand alone for the most part when just using the leds. when i add some scanners or moving heads then i run them all DMX via Freestyler and a toshiba 7" touch screen laptop. heres is footage at a Private party with all LED lighting 1 led revo 3, 1 led mystic, one led barrel, one led Star ball. sorry i forget how to post it directly on here. Tayla any help as i remember you posting how to but with the great search feature i can't seem to find it.

Heres an elementary school with a Revo 3, 2 Led Jewls and an and old school Eliminator Effects. no haze was used because of kids with breathing issues etc. you can see the revo fills the WHOLE gym with light. one light filling a gym floor to ceiling, wall to wall.

and this one 2 led jewels, one star ball, one raptor, hazer with a light controller. simple on off with basic timers.

Just completed a video on the American DJ Vertigo Tri-LED. I mainly did it for the ADJ Summer Shoot-Out Video Contest. This is a very nice and inexpensive light that is built like a tank. This thing may out-live me! 100,000 hour rated LED lights. I remember replacing halogens every 3 to 5 gigs on some of my old lights. Not the case these days!

Such poor quaility though Rude, I don't know how long a plastic light like that would last on the road.

I use Twister 4's made in metal by Abstract an English company.

What are you talking about? This thing is not made out of plastic!? It's made out of steel! I don't use plastic lights for my truss or light pole. I only have two that are made of plastic, they are mounted to my speaker stands.

Look at it again, it's not plastic at all.
