Topic: Crossgrade? are we to get one or not? - Page: 1

由于该帖子的部分内容已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

Hi,

I guess Im one of the many people who have joined the queue in asking "Crossgrade for OEM Versions of VirtualDJ".

Is it possible I could have a definitive answer
as to whether or not I will be able to crossgrade from the OEM version PCDJ to Atomix Virtual DJ?

I have waited a while to let the dust settle on this issue and I belive it's time to move on by either crossgrading, changing software, or sticking with the OEM with no prospect of upgrading, although technical support I'm told is still available for the old OEM version.

So it's a YES or NO!

to be honest there is another thread i've seen about this somewhere and could take months to sort i am a former pcdj vj user i just bit the bullit and bought vdj when version 6 was released, it is a much better program to use than pcdj vj

Thanks for your reply - much appreciated.

Paying again for the software is not an option at this moment in time as I believe it's just a matter of principle.

I personally feel that I am being railroaded into forking out my hard earned cash and If I am forced to shell out again I want to look at all the other options in terms of software and also the long-term prospects of getting support. Once bitten, twice shy!

I have my licensed copy of pcdj which works ok and crashes from time to time and I have already tested the VDJ version 6.01, although I can see small improvements such as the new script language and the better video support, but to be honest this version crashes as well and I'm hearing moans that the Time Code engine is pants compared to the previous version.

A couple of my fellow UK DJ's have actually gone back to version 5.2 and swear it's better. Others have moved on and opted for software like OTS AV which I am going to test next.

Thanks

Crashes are usually caused by something on your system so that could well be worth investigating more. I use v6 a minimum of 3 times a week live, and have done since early in the beta test and it hasn't let me down yet.

I'm using it 5 nights a week with my Denon Hc4500 & without & no issues at all here. This software is the best thing I've ever purchased related to DJ-ing in my well over 20yrs doing this professionally.

Thanks for the comments guys, but as they say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"

Look, the bottom line is all about allowing pcdj users to crossgrade.

We all know the software has its good points and bad points, and yes we know crashes are cause by incompatibilities between processes, files, permissions etc etc. The list is endless. And being a software analyst myself, I know that you can test and test and still get bit in the backside with something the developer hadn't even imagined. That's why you had a very quick release from v6.0 to 6.01.

And yes it's very good at what it does, but currently I feel like I have been pooped on by Atomix and PCDJ big time.

I don't want something for nothing and would happily pay a reasonable fee to crossgrade.

Do you want me to grovel? geez!

OK here goes:

I think Virtual DJ is the best thing since sliced bread.
It does everything I ever wanted in a professional DJ package
I love the way it can handle all types of media files, including karaoke and video.
The skinning engine is very easy to understand and there are a multitude of skins to choose from or even create your own.
The new mapping script language is writen in easy to understand plain language.
The support is second to none.
It has an amazing forum and the members are happy to help anyone.

Crikey is this enough?

If an Atomix ignore this grovel (My knees are hurting me) I know they just don't care about me!
I'm hurt and brusied and feel lonely here! sob sob!

lol, become a toon supporter then you know what it really feels like... lol

hope you get sorted soon mate.

well i'm also a uk dj and using pcdj vj i had an average of one crash every 6 months with vdj 6.01 i've had no issues at all and thats using it 6 nights a week doing karaoke using a dac 3 controller what i do is very search heavy and a average night of 3 to 4 hours if you are getting crashes etc i would say it's down to your system set up, i.e background services in windows that are running but not needed

er...The Saints if you don't mind! oDD SHAPE bALLS HERE! LOL

Try running a good session of a mix of:

1. Clip Bank
2. Videos (in assorted formats)
3. various sound effects
4. Karaoke (Zip and Matched Pair MP3 CDG)
5. Background Logo (own design)
6. Sonique - Video Effects.

All on the same night...

and then tell me it does not crash!

I'm running on a Acer 5902G laptop with 4GB memory - no antivrus - no wifi connection, Vista minimal Services all latency checked. Just vista installed and VDJ and never been on the net (except for vista OS updates).

Anyway it's not about the software...lol

It's more about the crossgrade - sob sob!

At last shout there were still "legal" issues behind the crossgrade.

It doesn't crash for me me running all that (except karaoke as I don't do that). On top of that lot I use some video plugins that you probably won't have, and my own DMX control plugin as well ;)

Thanks for the Info SBDJ...

at least I know where I stand if that's correct on the legal side.

I have thought about using a DMX controller on the same laptop, but hadn't met anyone yet who.

1. actually recommends it
2. actually doing it without affecting VJ's performance.

very interesting!

I don't recommend doing it unless you've tested your system thoroughly. I use my own DMX control plugin rather than the inbuilt V(D)J one that was present, but it doesn't have any impact on VDJ's performance :)

i don't use clipbank but i do use karaoke/video/audio/sonique and karaoke plug ins and sound effects on the same night with no problems at all

Seen as this is an all brit debate bar one, I thought I had better chip in.

Basically there are a lot of PCDJ users that are buying VDJ at the moment, it seems to be the thing to do. They have been doing this for years though even I made the switch from FX 3/4 years ago.

If you bought the product from PCDJ then your dispute is with them isn't it? remember they are a bad company alway's lieing and coming up with scams, plus their a bunch of DRMing twats!

I think you should do what I did, get all your PCDJ boxes, CD's, electronic install's and Manuels and bin them and then buy VDJ and have done with it.

Yes, it will cost you a bit! but life to short to bother about £100 or what ever it is.

Well Charlie, if you would like to put your money where your mouth is and donate the £100 as it would seem, and I quote..

"life to short to bother about £100 or what ever it is"...

I would be happy to put the balance and maybe that would stop a moaning old Brit.

At todays exchange rates......

United States Dollars United Kingdom Pounds
1 USD = 0.606472 GBP 1 GBP = 1.64888 USD

That would make a balance of £81.335p I would contribute!

Then you need to add VAT on top of that too. So you would be talking nearly £200 for VirtualDJ

Just a thought, if you shop around you can pick up Virtual Vinyl (Cue, well near as damn it, Professional grade interface, plus timecodes) for about £210

It makes you think doesn't it ;)

At the end of the day it's what I did after been messed about and lied to by PCDJ, and I feel that it was definitely worth while just to disassociate from them.

You have to accept advice if you post on forums and there’s no need for the cheek

hey charlie give the money to jimmy and me, we got a spare twenty minutes we can fit in at the boozer and if you smile enough when you hand your wad over we might even get you a lemonade... lol

I've seen the funny side :) very funny!

To the original poster, good luck with whatever you do
