CARPAL*

Yes I've had it my right hand. I had to operation 2 years ago on my right hand. My left had was OK until about 6 months ago, but now I may need the same operation on it.

The operation takes about 30 minutes. The operation consists of making an incision up to 2 inches long in the wrist and then cutting the carpal ligament to enlarge the carpal tunnel. The procedure is generally done under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis, unless there are unusual medical considerations.

I had to take 4 weeks of work for the recovery.

Does the braces do any good? to repair?

I used a wrist support for a few weeks before I went to see the Doctors, it didn't really help though. But after I had the operation I was advised to use the support again while I was healing.

It hasn't been confirmed for me yet but i think it is....wrist fingers hurt mostly when im scratching the records but the pains been here for about a month has not gone away. Think it was 20 hours a day of the mixture of computers and DJ'ing that did me over......any way to tell for sure it is CT?

This is what was happening to me. Every time I used power tools, spanners/socket wrenches, screwdrivers (in my day job) even writing and holding a pen I was getting numbness and pins and needles in the tips my of thumb, Index and Middle fingers.

Then as it developed it got worse. I was waking up 2-3 times a night with the severe pins and needles in those fingers, They became rather painful too. I though it was how I was lying in bed with my hand under my pillow. I stuck it out for a few weeks then went to the Doctors. He did some tests on me and told me it was Carpal Tunnel syndrome.

Now all this is happening to my left hand.

Double carpal tunnel surgery survivor here!!

When I get old and have arthritis in my hands and arms from years of overuse I think then I'll be ready to die. With my constant typing, DJing, craftsmanship on the job (mostly electrical and mechanical), sax playing, piano playing, fishing, weight lifting and physical conditioning, cooking and so many other things I love to do I am really going to hate life when I lose the ability of my digital motor function and skills. :^(

In most cases that happens when you scratch a lot... or keep using Vinyl... thats why i dont use vinyls since 2002. I had to operate my left hand in 2001.

The key to surviving carpal tunnel is early diagnosis and treatment. Mine was do to a non ergonomic computer desk at work when I got a new job. The first time I had a tingle in my fingers, I went to the doctor on the company dime. The doc was shocked to see someone coming in at the onset of carpal tunnel syndrome. He gave me some exercises (stretching) and braces to wear. He told me the key was to wear the braces at night, not at work. The injury starts at work, but the primary damage occurs at night while sleeping. The tunnel becomes irritated and swollen while working and when sleeping it is kept hyperextented. This hyperextension is what causes the most damage. I wore my braces for 6 months, no surgery. The only thing that I do is to make sure that I do not abuse my wrists, take frequent breaks at work (once an hour to stretch the wrists). I now have an 100% ergonomic desk setup and no loss of functionality in my wrists. If your turntables are the true cause, try raising the turntables up higher to reduce the angle that your wrists are bent. There are numerous websites that have the stretching exercises to help.

I've been soooo fortunate not to have had this problem. Been DJing for 25 years (5 years digital) but still scratch alot and pushing buttons all day long. Hopefully it doesn't hit me soon. I do have minor pain here and there but only when working it for hours upon hours upon hours. How severe is the pain usually.... pretty bad, I bet? That really sucks.

same shit here

i just recently had bad/sharp pains in my wrists from the same reasons as you.

I wore that brace at night and the very first morning i felt a world of a difference. within 3-4 days of wearing it at night, pain just about left.

two advils/motrins in the morning, two in the evening. i did not stretch my wrists till the brace came off.

I had it in both my hands. operation on the right as that was the worst then on the left. Would recommend having surgery.

Thanks for the world of info fellla's......I spend allot of hours on my hands every day 80% of it you take for granted but im sure it was the constant rapid scratching moments juggles ect i used throughout my day the finally kicked in.......I actually wasn't touching my tables for a week and the pain diminished and forgot about the pain until i hit the scratching again and BAM the tingles sharp jolts in fingers started so i new i had to start worrying...I just stopped at CVS and picked up a carpel tunnel brace for $30 figures its the most expensive one there. I'm going to where it at night and periodically throughout the day and see if i see any improvements and if i do ill just keep taking care of it. I'm not a doctor person so DR. Stick it too em is who im working with for a little while longer....if it gets worse i'll have no choice.
