Topic: What kind of Rear Projection Screen to buy

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

I am adding video to my mobile DJ setup. I got a Benq MP771 short throw projector. Now I need to purchase a rear projection screen. I am considering the spandex screen from DJscreen. com and also a da-lite fast fold screen. The DJ spandex screen is cheaper and really cool but I’m worried it may be to big for many of my gigs as sometimes space is limited. The Fast fold screen will probably take up less space.
The Fast folds come in 3 different Formats: Square, Video, and HDTV. My guess is the Video format is the one I will need.
For the Fast fold I am considering 54”x74” (4.5’ x 6’), or 63” x 84” (5.25’ x 7’), or 6’ x 8’
The Fast fold is a little pricey for me and I wonder if it is the best choice.
Any imput from anyone with experience with screens would be greatly appreciated.
I also wonder how much wind will be an issue outdoors.

You mean a projector screen? I have a 7' foot roll up type ultra bright white screen.

For music video and karaoke I use a four year old Mitsubishi Hi Def projector, it's a very powerful 1000 ANSI lumens. The problem I have with this sucker is that when the halogen bulb blows out it's $350 to replace! These halogen bulbs only last between 150 and 500 hours.

I have been looking at some of the new LED hand held projectors that range in price from $350 to $1000. These don't come in high lumens (20 is the highest right now) but from what I've read and videos I've seen on You Tube they will do the job and the LED's last 50,000 hours!! One of my halogen replacement bulbs costs as much as one of these entire LED projector units. I am currently researching to replace my Mitsu.

Thanks for the reply DJ RuDe.
I have a projector which I will be projecting to the back of the screen and you will view the screen from the front.
I think led projectors will be great and and am anticipating for them to come out with one that is bright enough.
Even if they come out with a bright enough led projector i like rear projection screens because that way people won't be tripping over the projector. The projector I purchased is a short throw so it can be very close to the back of the screen and still gives a big picture.

Try djscreens.com I have a screen from there and it's great.

Thanks for the reply atfmdj.
The DJ screen seems to be the best deal, I will probably order one tomorrow.

Oh, OK I got it, I know what you're talking about now. Don't know what I was thinking

I'm not happy with LED projectors yet but I'm hearing some brighter ones are in the works, we'll see. For now my Mitsu is great and very bright. I may look into the DJ Screen too, the Mitsu has the reversible image feature so it'll work for me.

I agree, another advantage of led projectors will be low power use. The led lights have come a long ways. I recently purchased an American DJ TRI PHASE light, and am very happy with it. It is super bright and a really cool effect.

I have 4 DJ SCREENS... all I Can Say is YES!!! If you have a lighting truss, These are EASY and QUICK to set up!

I use the fast fold da-lite screen, 6' X 8'. I love it. Also, use a 3200 lumen projector. I don't know the life expectancy of the spandex screens. I have had my fast fold for 5 years and would replace it with the same when it comes times.

Yes, I have one too, an ADJ Vertigo Tri LED. I remember back in the day the ones with the halogen light bulbs that would either blow out or trip the circuit breaker. LED is the way to go these days
