I've heard from other DJs and occasionally read that Windows Vista should NOT be updated as it will cause problems with DJ software. Is this speculation, rumor or based in technical fact.
Are there any definitive answers with a factual basis out there?

I believe it's just rumor mate. I have no worries about updating your OS. I've updated from Vista to SP1 to SP2 with no problem.
If you are going to update you OS, just make sure you do it at the start of the week (for example) so you have plenty of time for testing.

Rumours. So many about Vista...
I have also updated always and no issues whatsoever.

i run 5.2 on a vista box and i update with "EVERY" available update and the updates have not caused any problems at all. to be fair i would say "not" updating will cause more problems. the updates are there to keep your entire os and system as stable as possable, heres how they work.
when you get a system error and you report it to microsoft via the error reporting feature, the data you send is compiled and if the error is found to be common, microsoft create a fix for it and send it out as an update.
if you install this update then your system becomes free of the error happening again. if you dont update then your system has more chance of crashing and producing errors, which is what you "DONT" want to happen.
if someone is saying that these errors cause problems with DJ software then they had a serious brain fart.
to be logical, why would an update cause problems with DJ software and no other software????
you should always update your system, unless fo course you plan to never ever go online with it.... but even then there are a lot of problems and glitches that are still within your system that updates have fixed and you dont have due to not going online and updating.

Vista never really worked for me, I'm done with it. I updated, tweaked and everything else I could think of of, never really solved my problems with it. Today, I DL'ed Windows 7, so far so good. People say don't put an RC on your gig machine. Anything's gotta be better then the popping and clicking.
