ok, well. I am on the verge of saying the hell with it and going back to CD, but I am not going to give up just yet.
I rewired my rack (no ferrite rings yet, just rewired to make sure NO wires are touching for a possible ground loop issue). hooked everything up and turned the mixer volume ALL THE WAY UP again BEFORE opening CUE. no popping through the speaker I mentioned above. Open Cue.....starts popping. Swap inputs on the amp to make sure its not that....not that. and when I play music its popping/crackling in both speakers. close CUE....no popping.
so it is ONLY popping/crackling whatever when cue is open. Maybe I am not disabling something in device manager that you guys are or something. someone plz post up a list of what all you disable in device manager and I will try that next.
all I know this is REALLY starting to piss me off (which by the way I have to go find my screwdriver and an extra speaker cable that I threw across the garage as "damnit tools").

I just bought an RMX and use Virtual DJ 6. I'm having the same popping issue with my Dell 9400 laptop (which is a widescreen 19"). I update the bios - no change. I updated the video driver - no change.
I killed the Medium and Bass EQ so I can really hear the popping. I noticed that, while a song is playing, changing the skins creates much more of the same popping. Since I have a widescreen I was using (VirtualDJ6 Pro Widescreen) as the skin. I changed it to regular VirtualDJ6 Pro and the popping was greatly reduced. (Not eliminated)
Wonder if it has something to do the the video?
Moving the Virtual DJ software window while play music also causes popping.
Hopefully this helps find a solution.

well I am using 5.2.1 LE so I can't change skins. I checked my ATi drivers and everything is up to date and everything, turned down my video settings and still nothing.

I have ATI also. Wonder if it's the card. My popping isn't gone. It's just not as bad.

Is it just me or does the popping seem uneffected by EQ kills? The performance settings don't seem to change anything. The only thing that eliminates the noise is disconnecting the RMX and use the mouse.

well I am using a DMC2 but even with me just using the mouse it is still there. I filed a ticket with a link to this thread so hopefully I can get this worked out.

I worked on this issue all night last night with no real solution. The popping / cracking /static sounds like it's coming from the hardware or connection even though it is increased by manipulating the software. Here's my status. It would be interesting if anyone else can confirm these scenarios.
1. VirtualDJ6 Pro works perfectly as long as the Hercules RMX is disconnected.
2. The quality of the playback doesn't seem affected when the popping is occurring. The popping is just added on top.
3. Killing the different frequencies doesn't seem to effect the popping. In other words the popping seems like static over a radio. The broadcast quality can change with different settings but the popping appears to be constant (same loudness and frequency).
4. The popping can be increased by tiling the VirtualDJ window and moving it while playing a song. (Try using a muted MP3. You can really hear the popping.)
5. Changing skins while playing a song increases the popping.
6. Some skins create more popping than others. Some almost eliminate it (not completely).
My hardware is:
Dell 9400 Inspiron
Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 (2 GHz, 4 MB Cache, 667 MHz FSB)
2GB RAM
ATI X1400 256MB Video Card
80GB 5400 RPM Drive
I have access to multiple USB cables and notebooks. I will try using different hardware tonight (7:00 pm Central) and will let you know if there are any changes.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!! PROBLEM SOLVED!!! PROBLEM SOLVED!!! PROBLEM SOLVED!!! PROBLEM SOLVED!!! PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
whoever gets my ticket in tech support please disregard my ticket I solved the problem.
its actually kinda funny how I did it too, lol.
I just got done watching "Terminator" 2 and 3 and was sitting there thinking to myself, "you know what? you can't trust machines/technology."
so I broke out the laptop, checked my USB drivers....says they are up to date (like I said earlier) but since I was in the "you can't trust it" mindset, I went to HP's website, downloaded the USB drivers again (which were apparently an updated version) and the new HD audio drivers (which the laptop said were up to date as well) and BAM!!! IT WORKS!!!
thanks for all the help guys.

*rtrinidad* your problem almost sounds like a latency issue. have you downloaded the latency checker? try that and see what happens.

I was reading up on this and found the download. You may be correct. I'll try it tonight at (7:00 pm Central) and post my findings.
Great to hear you solved your problem. Dell uses Windows USB drivers so there's no updates other than Windows. We'll see tonight.

Still working on the issue. I'm still working on the Dell 9400. Still popping. No latency issues with the checker. I'll setup another notebook later tonight.
I figured out that using my 9400 notebook's soundcard for my master works beautifully. I just need to figure out how to get my headphones working to cue.
My setup is really simple:
Notebook with Virtual DJ6
Hercules RMX
Powered Speakers
It's looking like I can skip using the RMX for my mains but I can't get the headphones working on the RMX.
Here is my Sound Setup in Virtual DJ6
Inputs: None (No timecoding)
Outputs: Headphones
Sound Card: 2 Cards
I have Master: First card / headphones: Second card
My first card is: SigmaTel Audio (My notebook)
Second card is: Hercules DJ Console RMX
The only time my headphones work is by setting the sound card to: DJConsole RMX.
It appears that the headphone jack is killed. Hooking the headphones to the RMX output on the back seems to work. Is this the way it should be? I don't get much volume.

Great news Mike, always best and trusted method, trial and error that is. I like to say I'm the most patient guy when it comes to sorting issues but sometimes banging your head against the wall hurts then the toys get thrown lol

chriso710,
I guess your post is implying that Fuskit's solution would be mine. It isn't. I looked into that a few days ago. I found no USB driver updates from Dell. It appears that they use the standard Windows drivers. Does anyone know anything different?
I have managed to greatly reduce the popping while using the Hercules RMX but there is still the occational pop. It's much more obvious on slow songs.
I am starting to think an additional (expresscard) sound card on my notebook might be the answer. If I use the 2-card setup in Virtual DJ6 I think I should be able to use the built-in notebook sound card for my headphone cueing and the additional sound card for my master out. Does this make sense to anybody?

Sorry I did post under my quote to tell Fuskit's that I was pleased he found the solution. For some reason it hasn't shown.

Not to intentionally state the obvious, but - have you installed the latest RMX drivers yet? They just came out recently.

Yes I have. I guess a future patch will resolve my issue if my issue is ever figured out.
I went out and bought a (expresscard) sound card for my notebook and now use it as my Master. The onboard sound is for my headphones. I use the RMX as a controller only and avoid the builtin sound card. It's an $90 workaround but all is good.

OMG! I think I figured out my popping/crackling problem. It was the video card on my Inspirion 9400 (ATI Radeon). I opened the properties for the video card (right-click desktop, click Properties, select Troubleshoot tab) and moved Hardware Acceleration one click down.

The popping is gone regardless of what skin I use! It's party time!

If you play audio only (or to test), you can also try disabling video in VDJ (config-->video tab, click the "enabled" button). Also, try and avoid running your skin maximized.

Sorry to disappoint you but this popping noise has nothing to do with the ground. My laptop doesn’t come with a grounded outlet.
