I've got a Bar Mitzvah coming up here in Northeast U.S. The lady said she won't be doing it
New York style (whatever that means); prollly a simplified version or whatever. Anyway, any of you guys that have done one before, could you throw me a short set list of what you used during the dance portion?

Any other tips I'll need to be aware of? Never done one.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Check out this site. Bobby Morganstein is one of the best in the Philly area. He has some good CD's and DVD's for Bar Mitzvah's. I have been using the CDs for years with lots of success. The hardest part is keeping the kids happy. Lots of games. Mummy wrap has always been a big hit.

if you use clipbank i have some clips i put together for some of the guys a while back that you can have if you want... or anyone else that may need them.

Learn how to play the Game "Coke and Pesi" and get yourself a copy of Bobby Morgenstein's Bar-Mitzvah CD. The long hora is perfect after candlelighting. Oh yeah learn how to do candle lighting. It's not really hard, The Bar/Bat Mitzvah calls up family members to light a candle to a song.

As far as Jewish music I really play very little. I mostly play wedding music, I however do not claim to be the know it all Bar/Bat Mitzvah king
(I have done many though.) I did a Bat Mitzvah last week and if you would like I can upload my playlist from this affair. I actually played more Jewish music than I usual do.

New York Style always meant to "high energy" style. Usually done with dancers, staging, customes, ect. $$$!

My Bar/Bat Mitzvahs are usually me, my DJ and a female "motivator" (To help on the dance floor with games, prizes, dancing ect.)

I think I'll start with the playlist you can provide me with please. I might simply substitute in there requests (from the adults and kids) for some of the jewish music perhaps.

l'll get a copy of Morganstein's CD, and learn the coke and pepsi game, and get the candle-lighting thing down.

She, the mother, didn't seem to want me to get too involved in much of the "game set-up" part of it, but just wanted three hours of music, some during the supper, the candle-lighting, and a two hour dance lportion I think.

Could you get me the playlist you spoke of. Would really appreciate it. :)

Thanx again

One of the best games is scavenger hunt musical chairs. Have em all sit in a chair like musical chairs and have them run to look for things. Take a away a chair each time. You know the rest. Play their favorite tunes in between. Be inventive but tasteful when it comes to the items. Make sure to let them look for a business card and display yours. Works well. Good luck.

I did my First Bat-Mitzvah last weekend, We played musical chair Scavenger Hunt, it was a hit!!

I beat mixed ALL NIGHT at the dance portion, was my first time using Virtual publicly and it ROCKED!!

Be very high energy and you will get soo may requests for cards you won't believe it, I have already booked two parties and a high school dance because of this gig.

I was not the best since it was my first time but the crowd didn't seem to notice, I stayed away from my do not play list then played 90% new stuff and 10% kids and adults danced to (Brick House, Bee Gees, Baby Got Back.)

Have fun and enjoy yourself show off your skills and you'll be a hit, let us know how it goes.

BTW: Make sure you get the Bobby Morganstein CD you easily find it on I-Tunes, it was a lifesaver.

Here are a few that should get you going:

Milk & Honey - Halleluya.Mp3
Tzlil V'zemer Boys Choir - Pe'er Vchvod.mp3
Tzlil V'zemer Boys Choir - Hinei Ma Tov.mp3
Yehoram Ga'On - Kol Hakavod.mp3
Hanit - Bashana Haba'a.Mp3
Yehoram Ga'On - Od Lo Ahavti Dai.mp3
Jewish Dance - U'shavtem Mayim.mp3
Cardamon Quartet - Shir Ha'emek.Mp3
\Haparvarim - Erev Shel Shoshanim.mp3

Hope these help

This is a nice cross over tune too. It's Turkish but it's got a nice middle eastern beat.

UG Izola - Turkish Kiss

My music ratio is usually
85% American
15% Jewish

But most of the Bar/Bat Mitzvahs are for reformed (Contemporary) Jewish families.
