I'll try to make this short but I need some advice and I read a BUNCH of threads before posting.
I started DJ'ing in the mid 80's with 2 turntables, beat mixing and scratch while I was in high school.
I started converting from High School dances and clubs to Weddings in the 90's, so there was no need to lug around 2 anvil cases and a crap load of records when I could just segue CD's (My main income was radio/TV jobs at the time, I thought that was my passion.)
I stopped mobile DJ'ing all together in the mid 90's and focused on my radio carrier, found it to be very unfullfilling and stayed with TV.
The year 2000 I purchased "DRS 2006" and converted all my music and started DJ'ing weddings again, I have a thriving business and Friday nights perform for lots of School Dances.
I was tired of the same performance, the Turntables are dusty but I was ready to start mixing it up again, I have plenty of opportunities, even at weddings when the crowd finally says "Put some booty shakin' music on" I want to mix it up, so now I'm here.
Two weeks ago I bought the Hercules RMX and will buy the VDJ Pro next week, Wow the Sync tool is a great guide to get you close to where you need to be, Mixing seems so much easier. but by no means am I a pro at it yet, just a beginner when it comes to digital, I have made sure to Practice at LEAST 1 hour a day mostly 2, and the passion is back.
Now after the novel here are te questions:
1. I set my own cue in and out points in the DRS2006, it seems when I make a playlist in VDJ it fades "In" while performing regular Segues, I want the next event to start at full audio not a fade in,cause at this point I want to get rid of DRS all together.
I put "In's" and "Out's" manually for 27,000 songs (Personal collection also) and I'm sick of it. I want to spent more time mixing and less time setting "Out points" just for segue purposes, but the mix for cocktail hour sounds great every time.
2. Can you really "Scratch and Throw" a song into a mix with the RMX, I have not been able to even come close to achieving this but I still love this piece of hardware, Do I need more practice or is the 'Scratch" feature just a toy on the Hurcules?
3. I get those damn green/Red lines through my videos but I see VDJ is aware of the problem so I won't bitch, I'll just concentrate on my mixing for the time being.
I like the virtual categories and LOVE the fact that I can put a song in as many categories as I want, this was a big selling point for me.
4. Where is my "Digital Data" this is a DRS term, but is my history and BPM/Virtual Category Folder info really just the one VDJ file in "My Music?"
I am pretty "OCD" and usually re load Windows about once a year and I don't want to lose all of my saved Data.
I understand if people stopped reading a while ago, but when switching programs in a real performance situation I need to be full aware of possibilities.
I though I'd never leave DRS but Hello VDJ - Pro!!!
Thanks for your patience and I really did read lot's before posting,
Jake

Are you talking about automix? '
VDJ has an auto cue feature, where it will "smartly" select the best cue for start and end.

The RMX does NOT have touchsensitive jowheels, aka if you put your hand on the jogwheel, and hold still, the song will not stop... Like it would on real vinyl, or touchsensitive jogwheels.
So if you're into scratching, sorry, RMX wont cut it.. You need a controller like Vestax VCI-100, Pioneer CDJ 400 or go timecode (CD/vinyl) that will let any traditional dj gear control VDJ

What graphic card you have, and what codec are your music videos? Mpeg2, MP4 ?

Everything is saved in XML database files.
These are located in My Documents/Virtual DJ, and on the ROOT of every drive that you have connected (such as an external drive with music.)
If you are to reinstall Windows, or move to a new PC, this is all you need to backup and keep
Hope that helps ;)

Yes I am talking about Auto mix, While Dinner is winding down at weddings I like to go around to tables and introduce myself, I guess I'll have to play around with the Smart auto mix.
The convenience of Sync outweighs my ability to scratch at this point and if I need to I'll get the Time code Vinyl.
Video Card is the Dreaded Ndivia Dual 512, and I am working with a Desktop 3.2 Pent4 1.5 Gig of Ram, my problem is with mp4 videos.
I have updated all my drivers and for the life of me just can't find the correct codec and have been on this site for the last two weeks trying to solve the problem without re hashing old threads.
Thank you for your fast reply,
Jake

If you install the K-Lite Codec Pack and switch Virtual DJ to use Windows MediaPlayer video decoder your video problems may be cleared up. However, your processor is rather outdated, whilst mixing mp4 videos you may experience frame skipping.

Jake,
I'm not being horrible when I say this, but I think you will be struggling with any kind of format of video with your system. IMO mate, I think you may have to upgrade to a faster, and more modern machine to get videos running right, but good luck to you if you can.

Yes, your system is a bit on the weak end to mix videos...
But AT LEAST have the LASTEST directX drivers and graphic card drivers.
And codec pack as suggested (lines in video are often bad decoder).
It might work, if system is all up to date..
But getting a new better powerful pc would make wonders ;)

I'm going to try out the K-Lite codec pack and use WMP as the video decoder Change all my videos to the same format. What would be the best to use, AVI, MPEG, WMV, etc...?

No offense taken, I thought 3.50ghz processor would be enough, It is a quite old system but this is the year for upgrades, so I want to do it right.
I have a feeling that most use Laptops but I've always thought that a desktop get's more bang for the $$, and I can easily hide my CPU under the console, but what speed do you suggest for optimum performance Laptop or Desk?
My only other issue is I don't like buying a PC when Windows is in the changing programs mode, kinda like ME/2000, I'd like to see a version that will stay around, but my wife has given me the "Go Ahead" so I better buy while window of opportunity is knocking.
Thanks for all the insight, and one more quick Q, If I load my VDJ on my current computer+Backup how do I go about changing over license to my new computer?
Really, I do read the forum, sorry for asking questions that have probably been answered a million times,
Jake

Any modern dual core PC with a ATI/Nvidia graphic card with DEDICATED graphic ram (not shared), will work fine for your video mixing needs.
Yes, desktops usually works better than laptops, but my experience with laptops have been all good.
Dont worry about the Windows OS, Virtual DJ will work on the coming Windows 7 (already do), and works in Vista and XP too.
As far as license and installs, Virtual DJ is very flexible there.
You can download the install as many times as you want, and you can install Virtual DJ on 2 personal that you have up and running.
If you upgrade to a new pc, install Virtual DJ on that ... no problem ;)
I would strongly recommend you to upgrade to the PRO version of VirtualDJ though. Its soon out in VDJ 6, and is been free upgrades to all pro users since day 1...
The full Pro version will support video on a 2nd monitor, as well as being upgraded (Home Edition/Limiited editon you have will likely not be)
As a Hercules RMX user, you can currently upgrade to pro edition, with a huge discount

I will deff upgrade this week, that has always been the plan.
I was under the impression that my dual Video card did have it's own dedicated 512 of ram, that's kinda why I bought it, I am not ready to do Videos anyway Karaoke works fantastic.
Thanks for all the support and I will support the product,
Jake

Jake, I think you might have looked under minimum specs to run VDJ pro. If you go to Products,Software,VDJ PRO,features tabs and scroll down, you will see the different minimum specs including Video mixing. Hope that clears that up some for you. For me, I like using my laptop with a 1.6gh intel duo-core proc. 2gig ram. and never had it fail me yet. Only thing is my video card is under specs and mixing music videos freeze, but every other feature works rock solid.
