I've been a shuttle user for a few years now and although I still think this is the best solution, I do long for the portability of a laptop. Something to keep in mind.

true.. i am now thinking of a new setup and a laptop..would really help.... thinking of keeping my old system as is too... NS7.. was my first choice... have it sitting down... not even out of the pack yet... returning it.. needed it to work with VDJ. Thinking now of the Denon DN-S3700... or the Pioneer CDJ-400.. still have to find a proper mixer too.... So i guess laptop would be better.. but dont want to regret a purchase like I did the NS7...

Another advantage of desktop is that you can install kick ass sound card for as little as $100 with the same sound quality of $1000 external sound card for laptops.

What If you were looking for a laptop for only mixing music and karaoke, do you have to have the same pc requirements if you were doing videos.
 
 
I still think that the best deal on this kind of laptops is Toshiba Qosmio X305. Maingear you show and Alienware also have some configs from $4000 to $7500usd. If you can afford one, sure it's a nice piece of hardware to have :-)
 
The whole laptop for video is overrated. I've been using a ACER laptop with a low-end DUAL CORE with 2 gigs ram and a shared intel video memory for video and ive got NO ISSUES except some slight frame loss ONLY when cross fading video. Not a big deal considering it's a low end laptop. I do although use PC OPTIMIZATIONS tools and software as well.
