Hello,

How do you think about an sms service ?
Is it annoying if you see the whole evening text scrolling under or over a vid?

Was thinking about the fact that how beautyfull the sms on screen maybe is, I have the feeling that it's annoying for the people who wanted to watch the vids.

How do you think about it

i have a dedicated blackberry data only line i pay $5 USD a month for it from a freind at tmobile. i don't have it linked to post the message dirrect on screen but what i do is this. i put a message on the scroll that says "Send Your Requests and Shout Outs To ***-***-****" then as the messages come in i put the request in my cue list and continue mixing. if its a shout out i'll bang a few out at a shot. then what i do is i save each and every number that i get into my text promo list. i use this list to send out blasts for my weeklys or upcoming events. it works well. i can also see what people are vibing to in the room. im some of the clubs i play its almost impossible to get to the booth so this makes it easy for the lazy asses who wanna reuqest songs.

But the main question: is it annoying if you see the whole evening text scrolling under or over a vid?

Or is it better to collect the sms and put it on the screen every 15 minute and then show it for 5 minutes or so.
 
With ScrollText v2.0 you can set a delay between each message, and a total delay after each cycle of messages :)

Yes where is the 2.0 you speak of ?
 
I've actually been working on it today (don't tell my boss). It's moved up my priority list somewhat for my own reasons ;)

I'm happy to report it's very near completion. I've got a couple of small kinks to iron out based on some suggestions that have been made, but it's looking good :)

If you are looking for SMS functionality such as database building, polling and so on I've not yet implemented these and will probably add them in a later release. Simple SMS > Screen functionality is there however :)

Unfortunately a merger and round of redunancies at work, DJ'ing, along with my fiancee and son have kept me pretty well tied up recently. I'm making an effort to finish off the things I started though!
 
Fantastic news about the sms option coming soon. impressed with all your plugins so far. i have seen the polling / text request option before. but i never managed to ask the jock what he was using. but a great option for VDJ

No Mac support as yet I'm afraid. I would like to add it, but it's going to be a fairly major chunk of work!
 
okay, call me stupid.....but what does SMS stand for and what does it do? Is this just another name for the scrolling text plug-in?
 
SMS = text message (mobile phones). SBDJ has been working on a plugin where by msges received can be displayed on the screen.

okay....silly me, see I use my phone to press 7 numbers (1 plus 10 if it's long distance) and someone on the other end says something like "hello" and we start to talk to each other..............saves wear and tear on my opposibles for more important tasks.

Actually that is a pretty cool sounding idea....how do you transfer the messages from your phone to the plug-in?
 
That's what we call Scott's Magic Sms
It's almost finished I heard.

You don't need to transfer the messages - you link your phone to your computer (cable, bluetooth, whatever) and the plugin automatically pulls messages from your phone as they arrive. You then approve the messages, and bingo there they are :)
 
Hell Yeah, I never got into the new toys and gizzmo's but this idea I would Pay a small fee to help this along. I'm all about new ideas and doing something different.
 
Is it possible to make money on SMS like charging micropayments on incoming massages?
 
I guess you could get a short code that forwards to a normal mobile.

I've been sent some information on a well priced web service as well which I might be able to implement.
