I'm running XP SP2 on my gig machines and I'm thinking to get the updates, so what is your experience wit xp sp3, is VDJ 5.2.1 going to run problem free with sp3 installed?
Did any of you tried this?

To be honest, when I installed SP3 on my old XP gig laptop, I didn't notice any change in VirtualDJ performance. It didn't affect it one bit, you should be fine IMO

Theer are no known issues with Service Pack 3, if you want to download it and install it on a computer that dosent connect to the internet, check this link (takes you to microsoft)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en

there are 2 versions of the install, the small one WILL want to connect to the net, this one ia over 300mb and has all it needs

enjoy :)

In my opinion if you have to use your laptop for only gigs, why do you need to upgrade your O.S. with SP3 ?

As far as I know, SP3 needs higher hardware performance for instance it uses more RAM.

REALLY???

ive not seen any negative effect on either of my PCs...

pc 1: Athlon single core / 1gb ram
pc 2: Athlon 64x2 4200 / 1gb ram

Believe me, IT WON'T DO anything to spoil VirtualDJ performance. You won't even notice any difference. I know I used SP3 for 6 months before I get my Vista gig laptop.

You are worrying about nothing!!!!!

Thx,I'll go ahead and install it, I know, I know " if it works why fix it", but I was pleasantly surprised to see how well windows xp sp3 with all the updates installed worked, I noticed this rebuilding my wife's netbook( a slow acer one), it was much faster then service pack two. There are driver updates that require service pack three for my lappy so I'll give it a try and do the updates to one of my laptops and keep the other one as a back up with sp2 to keep my paranoid toughts at bay.
I'll keep you posted
Btw I'm still not found of vista, I wasn't convinced yet that vista is a real pro upgrade, but windows 7 looks promising.
Happy Spinning!

also, dont do the upgrade on a NON-Genuine windows...
it will break it.

hmm thoughtful, but what do you think, I paid for VDJ and I would use a non genuine version of Windows?

I'm right there with you sischo, my (2) work computers don't touch the Internet other than DirectX updates.
My computers are totally DEDICATED to VDJ.

People who do otherwise live on the edge. You can buy a computer to surf the Internet and play games for $75 US dollars
Do the math. (AND YES marksmolinski I'm talking to YOU)

Please explain.....

Well almost all the people reading this will have bought a VDJ licence and noboubt care about DJing enough to be straight with all the software they have on their gig machines, but...

ive encountered too many local DJs that scripm and save on their laptops, on their OS and use virtualdj obtained from 'knock off Pete'.

well if they have success whist DJing, sooner or later the craked copy of windows WILL (and does) blob out on them.

But thats not any of us (i hope)

I don't understand your words.
Do you really care if other DJs have an illegal copy of Windows?

I would have cared about it only if I had been Bill Gates or if I worked for Microsoft...or maybe you are a nephew of Bill! :)

P.S: you should say "knock off Bill !"

im not bothered by the fact, either..
but when they call me up and ask for help then...

In this forum you should consider only who has VDJ original.
If you consider O.S. as well, you should be sure about the hardware too because you never can know if the laptop has not been stolen.

I hope you get the sense of my words.

Coming back at the original topic, the user can use SP3 or SP2 indifferently.

Sp3 doesn't need more ram... Or higher Performance parts. Your getting mixed up with vista. XP SP3 just adds Slighty more stability than SP2. Updates are mostly for web browsing (security)...

and how about the specs for a xp sp3 pc? Vista needs some specs, xp is better on that behalf.... but how about Virtualdj?
Running music and an occasional movie or effect on the second screen (connected to a beamer), using midi controller and eventually running lights with freestyler (usb dongle to DMX) I'd need about.... what specs???

Website of Microsoft says:

Processor Pentium 233 MHz (recommended 300 MHz)
At least 64 MB of RAM (recommended 128 MB)
At least 1,5 GB free space on own hard-disk
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
Keyboard and Mouse
Video card and monitor with resolution Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher
Audio Card.
Speakers or headphone.

Microsoft told me the above mentioned specs are pretty the same between WindowsXP original and WindowsXP SP3.

If your gonna use it with music mostly... XP is the way to go. I bought a Dell Inspiron AMD turion 64 X2 and its 2.0 GHZ It has 2 gigs of ram. It came with Vista but i Took it off. I am Using XP and the latency is very low. Since i bought it over 2 years now, i never had a crash dj ying..
I dont go online, i hardly get updates, No programs but windows and the DJ software. XP gives better latency Than Vista and its recomended more for dj use.

This laptop with Vista would consume more resources than using XP. One thing i noticed is that all laptops even though they may have the same specs.. Some laptops have better ventilations than others. The temp may cause the laptop to not run properly. You also have usb drop outs.
