I was at the club last night with my fancy Behringer DDM 4000, CDJ 800's, Virtual DJ... Well everything is going great and then all of a sudden the DDM 4000 quit on me. I was like WTF just happened? I turned it off, and then back on and it started doing some crazy stuff (its completely digital). Music is still off, virtual dj and cdj's are running great, but the mixer is dead and people are staring at me. Luckily the club had a spare mixer so I just used that. Went to Guitar Center today and bought myself a Pioneer DJM 800 mixer. Big difference in everything. I bought the DDM 4000 because I wanted to see if Behringer had changed from all these years but I just found the answer last night. If anyone is planning on buying one please think twice. After last night I really learned how important it is to have a good mixer. Note that I do not want to insult Behringer or give them a bad rep. on the forums, just letting everyone one know to be cautious when buying such important items. Its my public service announcement of the week.

Whats up.

As it has been discussed in several threads, I ALWAYS have my little MP3 player hooked up and ready to go with several megamixes just in case.
Gives you some time to figure things out.

One DJ on the forum said that he starts his MP3 player megamixes with a big crash or explosion or alike to make a dramatic change. It's a great idea.

Sorry to hear about your experience, but that is one of the beauties of VDJ; you can choose your own mixer.

Thanks for the info, Iv'e never had luck with cheap equipment other than a select few items. I have an 800 too and some cdj 1000 mk3's im thinking of using timecode cd's n using the mixer with a ext sound card.

I too had the DDM4000. I never had any issues with it. Everytime that I used it, it felt like a toy and I didn't want to make any sudden or drastic moves with it. I thought it would break, lol. Anyway, I pulled the plug on a DJM800 and 2 CDJMK3's a month ago and what a diffrence. The mixer is solid and the decks are incredible. I love my setup and the sound is amazing.

Time code cd's work really good with the cdj's. I have had no problem with using them for that purpose. Since that mixer died I have decided to carry a spare one with me to every event :)

i got a ddm4000 the first one came defective. the second one didn't even last a 4 hour set without having midi buttons sticking and not functioning right. i returned it the next day. i too gave it a shot hoping that all the "hype" i read about it being the "flagship" mixer for behringer. well i how they don't plan on making any more ships cause that one sank.

Ouch! Of all the hardware failures that might happen the mixer is usually the least likely to blow up.

My grandpa used to have a saying: "Poor people can't afford to buy cheap things."

Basicly what he ment is that it's just a waste of money to first buy a cheap product, realize it's a piece of crap and then buy an expensive quality product.

As far as Behringer goes, I would not touch their products with a ten foot pole. Every single Behringer product that I've been forced to touched was utter rubbish. In fact, I can't recall hearing anything but bad comments about Behringer. But it's obvious really, You can't expect to get a limousine ride if you're only paying for a bus ticket.

Your Grandpa's saying is great! it one of mine now.

I must be lucky. Been using a Berhinger powered europower mixer for 4 years for Karaoke gigs only because folk insists that my sound is far more superior than any other DJ in the area and therefore put that down to this mixer, and always having a full house quantifies this point unless i'm bloody good at my job LOL. Tried other mixers but always revert too this reliable piece of kit, as for the rest of my mixers Numark is priority. Business is booming after a slack period and considering i never had to advertise, amazing the power of word of mouth.

I do agree with Grandpa tough. By expensive but search around if it cost £180.00 expect to buy it for a third of the cost secondhand.

behringer is pretty damn good at live sound stuff - speakers, amps, etc

but otherwise, mixers, other dj equip sucks. lol

chriso710, I guess you got lucky. My recommendation is to have a spare near by.

Very unlucky. I don't know who carries a spare mixer but yes that is normally the last thing you would need to worry about. My suggestion would be to use vdj's internal mixer in future if your mixer fails. Straight from the soundcard to your amp. Just make sure you carry the correct cables.

loL@a mixer failing during a gig. wow
even an mp3 player wouldnt have saved u much there..

a lot of people through circumstance have to buy the cheaper stuff first to get them on the ladder to success, they know this is the only route that is an option open to them, they then reinvest the money they have made from their original purchase to something that is more their goal for them in stages, so buying low is sometimes the only route for many and shouldn't always be looked at as a bad thing.

Tayla, I agree with your post. My opinion is that Buying expensive don't always pay off, however seeking and comparing advice from DJ'S entertainers out in the field can save you a small fortune.

your mixer is like your heart. without it YOUR DEAD! when i tested the ddm4000 i still have a rane with me and swapped it out once i started having issues. i remember when i used to use the cheap mixers but when i got my first REAL dj mixer with good faders etc i noticed a huge differnce in my cuts, mixes everything.

are u the real synystr..
if u r im a fan. been a fan since tjsdjs many years back. i dont go there anymore.

The internal mixer is useless when you're in a club and the inputs are xlr but my computer output is 1/8" jack (i think). I read the reviews on the DDM 4000 and everything looked good so I gave it a shot. I guess the night could have turned out worse. lol. I think it's safe to say Pioneer mixers fail less often than Behringer mixers

Had my DDM4000 for over a year and it's not let me down yet.

The DJM800 is a tank compared to the DDM4000, i love the sound quality and the features of the DDM4000 (except for the Mic section) but no doubt you need to look after this unit as it's not built to take abuse but it has a done a good job for me, i'm happy with it so far.

+1 at TAYLA...
