In my day job we play with lots of new POS gear and we just got some new 15" touchscreens which have a secondary screen mounted on the back. These are a nice compact unit and have a pc built in - as soon as I saw it I thought, hmm wonder if it will run vdj. Just wondering if anyone is using POS gear currently for their vdj setup?
I am not sure if the processor will be grunty enough for vid but they are built tough to withstand work in the hospo industry so the screens and hardware should be up to it. The boss has tentatively agreed to lending me one for some testing.
Its something like this idea but with a smaller base... http://www.ixtenso.com/portal/en/product/778;jsessionid=76EC38F616AAC2BF1107BF8289B78ABD

Touch screen works fine with VDJ but unless you turn the screen in its side and add a virtual keyboard underneath VDJ it is not worth the effort.

thanks marcel, i didn't get it, why do so many places expect you to understand their buzz words, what is quite understandable in one culture or age group is alien to another.... me in particular, lol.

I dont get the screen on its side thing either?
When we use these for POS we have a button you can press on screen to bring a up a qwerty keyboard overlay so you can type standard characters.
Sorry, POS as in Point of Sale as in a glorified cash register. Been working with this stuff so long, you wrongly assume everyone knows ;)

I think what chris is saying that it may be easier on the side to leave the keyboard on screen all the time rather than having to toggle it - and when toggled where would it display. wouldnt want it over the browser because you would be able to see what your searching - like wise over the decks to see whats playing.

Yes that is right. I have found that you if you use a 19 or 22 screen and use it vertically, and not horizontal, you can fit VDJ in the top half and a keyboard on the bottom half. On Ebay you can also find 22 inch 4:3 format glass touch panels that will stick, with double sided tape, to the front of your 4:3 LCD (4 across to 3 down ratio and are simply known as 4:3 and wide screen are 16:9)
It is even better if you can buy an LCD that, including the frame (known as a bezel), is bigger than the touch panel you buy (including its boarder). If the LCD is bigger, you should be able to remove the bezel and fit the touch panel inside the LCD and then replace the bezel. This will give you a very professional look.
Feel free to send a personal message for more info

I always thought POS stood for "piece of shit" .......
Anyway, I run VDJ remotely on my Vaio UX1 and it works a treat. I managed to get a good 1024x600 skin and the whole touchscreen interface is quite good. The beauty is that I can have my main lappie running VDJ full screen with the DN-HC4500 controller, but if I stroll about I can take the UX1 running a different VDJ session through RDP. The UX1 also has a keyboard under the screen, so if anyone asks for requests the search can be done instantly.

Hi kradcliff-
Where did you manage to get a good 1024x600 skin? That is the size that netbooks need and I have not seen any available.
Thanks!

I'm using vdj with atouchscreen I feel it is up to the user & where & how you want to use it. What I mean by that is if you do clubs or bar touchscreen is not the way but if you private affairs & weddings I feel it is definetly the way to go & yes you need a keyboard I have a pop up screen keayboard but it is not practicul & iI have a regular keyboard & that is very user friendly. So yes touch screen is for me & DO NOT USE POS TOUCHSCREENs....................

Mario check this keyboard out http://www.virtual-keyboard.com/ I love it as I have created a custom design that minimizes and maximizes to my liking. Works great with the touchscreen as the minimize button tucks neatly at the bottom of the playlist and blends in with the skin (or where ever you want to put it). Check out my profile for some of my pics. More will be coming soon as I have more ideas to change my All In One setup.

Why do you say DO NOT USE POS TOUCHSCREENS? Particularly since that is what most are originally designed for...

There is nothing wrong with using POS touchscreens, although 15 inch is a little small for me.
