After Thursday nights gig, I noticed that it still said that "Windows is shutting down", after 5 minutes, so I hard power down. This is nothing to me, so I go home and think nothing of it. In school all day Friday, and my elbow has been hurting for two days, so I am very busy and in pain. Get to the club and set up as usual, and their shitty laptop is playing VDJ on auto. I turn on my machine and nothing, nada, zilch, doo doo, not a flicker. The power supply is on, fans are running, I open the case and the processor fan is on. I retry the video hookups to make sure the monitors are not switched, and nothing. Now I have to go to plan B, which I just thought up. My backup, is a laptop which I am ashamed to say, has not been configured to do a whole gig. I did not have enough new music on it, and never tweaked the pops out of the sound card yet. So, I plug my sound card into their laptop, along with my DMC2 controller. This is not gonna be pretty, but hey, I am a professional and have been in worst jams before. I have no idea where any music is, so this is gonna be a search thing all night, there are no cue points, and the quality of all the tracks is below standards, because everything is from illegal sites. Did I mention that this is a video gig? There will be no video tonight. A few people asked where the videos were, and the owner did not notice until midnight, I just told her that there was a broken connection and that I would fix it tomorrow. I get through the night, and am out the door the first thing Saturday morning, with my machine and my older machine in the van. I go to my computer guy, but he is in some kind of class, taking some big exam, and may not get to the shop until 5pm. I finally find a shop that I have passed a thousand times, and go in. I tell the guy my problem, and tell him I have two machines in the van, so he can use the older one for parts if he has to. Come to find out, my motherboard is dead, and he has two from the same company as mine(ASUS), to choose from. Both of them are upgrades from the one I have, so I take the one with the HDMI output and the 8 channel sound. Bang, we put it in, do the whole driver and config thing, and I am out by 3:30. By the way, my machine never left my sight, because homey don't play that. This guy is now gonna be my new computer person, and has agreed to give me some personal classes. Cost, $256.00 but my peace of mine is priceless, as I left with a smile on my face. The mother board is still under a three year warranty, so I may even get a better board. As some of you know, I built two of these machines at the same time and gave one to my best friend as a present, so I do have a backup of content. It did not dawn on me until 10pm, that he was not working Friday night, and was only 20 min away.
Moral of the story, is to be prepared. I always bring multiple backups for my mobile gigs, but most clubs have CD players, so I am not as paranoid about things going wrong. There is a CD player in the rack, and the controller is under the console, but I don't even know if it works, and do not have enough Cd's to do a club gig. I have plenty of the mobile stuff. I did not panic because I actually had several options, and just went with the easiest. I have a subscription to Rhapsody, and used my laptop to stream quite a few songs that were not on the clubs laptop. I had two 500g external hard drives with video with me, and probably could have done a video show, just not with the club's laptop. As I said, I kept my laptop online to stream any songs that I needed. I have broadband in the booth, but I also have a phone that works as a modem, and works very well. So, that's my story for the weekend. It is now snowing very hard, and I just found out that school is closed tomorrow.

Sorry to hear all that . I have a gig ready back up but it's a desktop system, it's my home system so in between shifts at the strip club it gets used at home and i use it for civilian purposes ..... email , sending indecent propositions to women , porn , all the usual .Its not as good as the gig rig or as portable but i do know it works 'cuz it gets used all the time.
Ask your new tech guy how to get yourself set up with an image of your exact configuration , and in future it will be much easier to get a new system going from scratch if god forbid ......
i am currently taking my usual time and proceeding at my usual snails pace making a new gig rig from scratch ..... when i get done with all that in a month or so the old gig rig lappy will be my new backup ..... then just put it thru it's paces for a few days to check everything and i'll be all set with my new upgraded system
i don't have a tech guy , not yet anyway ......my tech guy is Skyfxl , Cyder , Cstoll , Norway , Marcel , TearEmup .... the forum basically
they are kinda scary to look at , but there price is good

I have had the Gig rig video card blow out on me once. I went to start up the machine and much like AMAHM the machine appeared to boot up but nothing on the monitor, no blue screen, no anything.
I also had to swap out the motherboard, but fortunately for me the same motherboard was still available. So it was a straight R and R.
Sucks don;t it.
