just to get the ball running for you, look at this link.....

got it from currys two years back this month for 800 quid, probably goes for about 50 quid now, lol. vista is already pre loaded into it, now from day one all i did was load vdj into it and disabled norton, since then no other tweeks and everything runs fine including video no hic ups no nothing, only problem i did have it started to overheat about six month ago, to cure it all we did was to put 4 blobs of heatsink paste back where the factory line had missed and i haven't had a problem since.

now as you all know "sods law" i will be reporting a problem with it tomorrow... lol

best of luck with your choice...

think daz needs a little more input than just mine... come on guys

i just got the asus m51t 2g proc. 3gb ram 512 video $900u.s. Rocks!!

I'm looking at buying a laptop myself becuase for now I have just been using my desktop, and it's past it's time.

I was actually looking at getting a Dell. What problems did you have daz?

dells in general are a little more expensive ......

a dell in and of itself actually isn't a bad thing , just the prices aren't very good and they tend to be one of the brands that are VERY loaded up with default barfware , the junk you don't need as a dj that is preloaded

there wasn't anything wrong with his unit , he just doesn't know how to tweak it for dj use .....

if you don't know and then don't bother to learn you could very well have this experience with several brands before you get lucky and stumble upon something that requires little tweaking

also laptops aren't the only way to be a digital dj

for myself only , if i had decided on a laptop instead of a shuttle , i wouldn't get a Dell because of the higher prices ..... the barfware can be easily uninstalled

make sure your unit will do what you need it to do with your soundcards and controllers , then get the best price

Tayla's unit is proof of what I say about RAM ...... compatibilty of the operating system and your various components is actualy more important than the processor speed and the RAM ...... Tayla's example only has 1 gig of Ram (generally not recomended , such a small amount) and none of the specs are awe inspiring , yet it works well .....

there is no such thing as getting the right brand , such that if you merely buy that brands equipment you purchase a panacea .....

I have a dell Inspiron E1705 widescreen and it ran me 2,000.

They do come preloaded with "barfware" but if you know computers just format it and reload the OS minus the addons. That's what a friend of mine did for me. He's a sys admin. The one thing I had to do was update the nvidia driver.

The laptop you choose can vary depending on what you want to do with it. If you are only using it for audio you can get away with a lower spec machine and dont need a high performance video card. I use a bog standard Compaq presario as a backup machine and it works just fine.
If you can put up with a little added inconvinience and want to do lots of video work get a pc IMHO its the way to go.

From 1 Daz to Another
