sorry for beating a dead horse, but im SERIOUSLY considering buying this unit and i just wanted to know the pros and cons of this controller...
i especially want to know the deal with the sound card (using with vdj) and the touch sensitive wheels which are my main reasons for switching from the DMC2... im only mixing audio, is it worth the switch?
(i use mac if it makes a difference)

also looking at the unit too but heard you have to upadte the firmware for vista. any info would be lovely
 
Dat bot ti, for what i heard ppl are having success with the unit plus the mapper. Look at the mac forum for more info on user using on it;)
 
Not sure about Mac (never had one) but the unit itself is rock solid. I use it in a club and the latency is amazing, inbuilt sound card is loud and clear and the interface with VDJ is brilliant using the JPB Mapper (which I believe now supports mac).
I do a lot of mixing and it almost feels like an extension to my fingers it is so responsive. Numark gear is nowhere near the quality of Denon, but that's just my opinion of course!

Yes it is now supported on mac too;)

Naahhh, you will be another very happy user, specially if you use the JPBoggis mapper. I have it with the X500 mixer, and the crossfader x-control feature for crossfading videos are the bomb!
 
There is no question that Denon is a solid company, and I have owned several products. I have also bought plenty of products for the clubs that I have worked for. The reason I have not bought this product, is because it only has two stereo outputs. VDJ needs three outputs because of the sampler. That is why I still use the Gigaport and the Virtual Vinyl interface. I like to be able to control my samples, because sometimes I use it like a third player. I also love the video crossfader on the DMC 2. Do you have any idea how many of these units they could sell, if they had a third sound card and sampler button, built in? Hey Silvio, can you hear me
 
You could always use the 3 channel mixer option in VDJ ..... use 1+2 from the DN-HC4500 and the third sampler channel from your PC inbuilt sound card.
 
I use the three channel option, but like all my outputs to be of the same quality, and sound the same.

That may be your opinion. But your opinion is also a fact.

Numark used to make quality when they were still made in New Jersey. But that was the original Numark, before it got sold.

I've owned the DN-1800F, DN-D4000, DN-D6000, DN-2000F MKlll and the DN-2600F. Rock solid, every last one of them.
 
I bought a DN-2600F back in 2000 and used it for 2 months. I then bought a laptop and started with PCDJ therefore leaving the Denon redundant.

It has sat in my garage for years in the heat of the summer and cold of the winter, covered in dust.

One of my friends wanted to borrow a CD player last week, so I dug it out, cleaned it off and it works perfectly. All the buttons work and the laser mechanisms are fine.

That to me is quality.

In my direct experience some Numark products don't even work when they come out of the box new .......

The only problem I had when I bought my HC4500 was, I couldnt connect to my laptop. Everytime I would connect it, I would get a blue screen and it would crash.
Turns out, what I had to do was go to a different pc and download the vista update for the HC4500. Then I had to install it on that pc, but once that was done I was able to go back to my laptop and connect with no more problems.

hmm, never thought about the sampler issue...i was gonna get the x050 mixer, but i guess i need a 3 channel.... the X500 it is...
wheres the cheapest place to find the hc4500?

I'd agree it would be a very good feature enhancement. It would also future-proof the controller for 3 deck output in software supporting it. I use my Ecler mixers soundcard for this reason; three lines output to the same hardware, single connection, nice and easy. The mixer also has a panel mapped on it for sample recording and triggering.

Lots of people complain about the sampler, but it can be very useful. Look at the old Pioneer DJM mixers - limited sampler functionailty, but very quick and easy to use.

You can always use another sound card such as your Gigaport or VV interface with the HC4500 - You don't have to use the internal sound card (Although for many it's very convenient to do so - No additional wires and clutter.)
 
The Denon DN-HC4500 is an excellent controller and has many pros, including:

* Excellent build quality and sturdy construction.

* Bright VF displays.

* High-resolution pitch sliders for accurate beat mixing (Uses 14-bit rather than 7-bit MIDI.)

* Built-in good quality two channel ASIO sound card, so no need for an external card.

* Video crossfading using the real mixer crossfader if you use a Denon X500 or X900 mixer.

* Ability to link to BU4500 CD drawer as a backup option (Allows the controller to be used as an ordinary Denon CD player.)

The only con is the original firmware has a MIDI bug and does not work correctly (Causes the software to freeze) - If you purchase a HC4500, the first thing you should do is ensure that the firmware and drivers are up-to-date: http://www.denondj.com/firmware.aspx?ProductId=81

I LOVE the HC4500....

Right now I just use it plug and play with VDJ 5.2. Flawless integration. I also have JBs mapper which is awesome but you need to spend some time learing what it can do. Since I have a few weddings, I want things simple right now so I don't accidentally hit something and forget how to recover.

THE SOUND QUALITY IS AWESOME.. I have been using a gigaport AG card for the last 2 years. The Denon SOUND is MUCH CLEANER! I can hear much better separation.

I also use an oddessy rack with the Denon bottom drawer and the fact you can use CDs as back ups is brilliant!

The HC4500 is a no brianer. There is even a super cool VDJ skin, that allows you to use more effects.

I have been beating on the HC4500 for a few days and can not come up with any cons. I wish I got one earlier...

Best rack mount midi controler out there for VDJ. Also great support from Denon. You call Silvio and he gets back to you.
