Hi all, fantastic forum and very helpfull. Just a few questions that are doin me head in!
1. I have a vestax vci-100 coming my way next few days and before i commit to buy pro vdj, will it map ok?
2. I am so confused with which soundcard/audio interface i need. I wiill be buying a new laptop soon sa as to take the equipment mobil to small venues. Main reason for question is i dont honestly understand the headphone cue issues. I would like to cue the same way i do with standard decks/mixer but do away with them and use only vestx/laptop/audio device. I have researched and has made me even more confused! Some say 2 outputs from audio interface is not enough? Rca is stereo so only left/right per channel, some audio interfaces use ¼" outputs, are these mono so need 4 in total or are they stero so same applies? How about the headphone socket on the audio interface? why cant that be used or can it? SORRY TO BE SO THICK, BUT I THINK I'VE GOT MYSELF IN A HEADACHE SITU! ALL HELP AND COMMENTS ARE MUCH APPRECIATED AND THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.
p.s i have read through alot of posts on here but am still confused!

Your first question mate, you won't need to map it, the VCI 100 has full native support within VirtualDJ, so it should be a matter of just plug and play, you just activate it in the remote control tab of the config. But if you do want to map it to your desire then you can use the general midi option in the Remote control tab of config.
If you do this though you will lose the backlighting and LED's of the controller. So I would just stick with the native mapping.
As regards to soundcards, you first must ask yourself, will you just be needing one to "pre-listen" or will you needing on for timecodes later on.
Timecodes soundcards have to have 4 inputs and 4 outputs and have Asio drivers.

uuuhhhh good advice jim
you can go ahead and get VDJ regardless of your reservations because VDJ can accomodate your controller and soundcard ........
the real question is ....... does your soundcard and /or controller have drivers for your Operating System ( you need to be sure of this if you have 64 bit vista )

Cheers guys for the info, I will be running xp and i get the idea of adding timecodes later- top idea to have more i/p and o/p for later adding. I just cant get my head around how the cue works with audio interfaces through headphones. Would i have to select a headphone button on vdj? Im use to my djm 600 where I like to cue up using one side of the headphone then bring the track in then listen with either both sides of headphones or remove and listen to what my crowd are. Would this be possible or would i have to select anything on the audio interface? What audio inferfaces are people using here or recommend as so i get an idea of what to look for. Thanks

I use the Gigaport AG because it has 4 stereo outs. This is how it works. It connects to your computer via the attached usb cable. Your computer will recognize it, or you can use ASIO drivers (not needed). Now you can connect 4 stereo RCA to RCA cables from the outputs of the sound-card, to 4 stereo inputs on your mixer. You can now cue just the same way you used to. The good thing is you can now have the sampler of VDJ on it's own channel, so you would be using 3 channels instead of 4. I think you can assign the 4th channel to another player on your computer, I just have not tried.

Cheers guys, this is getting alot clearer- job done! How about this; If i wanted to do away with my external mixer completley and use internal mixer then how do i cue with the audio interface? Use the h/phone cue on the software and assign an output from the interface to monitor? Or does the headphone socket on the interface let me do this??? Is this right or am i still dullard international!
