Well my 2nd set of Pioneer HDJ-1000 and my pair of Technics 1200 finally bit the dust. What is the best buy today that are solid and great sound?

Mybe i'm too hard on headphones... i also had the Denon 1000's last year. One side the cup broke then the wires tore apart. i also found them too high endy in frequency.

I have talked with many people about headphones, all of them said to me that Pioneer HDJ-1000 are too fragile and it breaks very soon at the coupling as showed in this picture:

I suggest you to buy Sony MDR-V700DJ but to avoid and buying them by ebay because there are many fakes (even though are the same as shape, electrical components are differents).
Technics RP DH 1200 are good as well.

They're not the most popular brand name; but I've been using Behringer HPS5000 headphones for the past year.
I've dropped them a couple of times, and they seem to be holding up very well.

So if you are looking for a headphone which can last and at the same time it has a deep sound, you should decide either Sony or Technics.
This depends on you:-)
I picked Sony and I've never regretted my choice.

I also had the behringer headphone and they lasted the least amount of time. The construction wasn't the problem, the coils tore apart and the headphones started distorting. I DJ almost 7 nites a week so I go through headphones very fast. but I'm sure there 's aset of phones that are well built at the swivel joints and electronically.
The best ever headphone I owned for over 15 years was a pair I purchased at Radio Shack in the 80's. never a problem, they actually got stolen at a gig. No swivel or gadgets, just well built and a decent quality of sound at the frequence I needed to hear to do great clean mixes! Man, I miss them...

I recomend you the AKG K181DJ...the sound quality for me is better than the reference sennheiser HD25, and ALL the pieces of this headphones are available as spare parts, so, if something brokes, just called your AKG distributor, to get the replacement piece!

If you want a pair of headphones that are robust try these

Sennheiser HD25 SP
Quite basic in design, but the sound quality is really good and quite bassy too. I've had a pair for well over 9 years now and all I've had to change is the cable and ear padding twice.

+1 Spinna, I will not even use a pair of the studio headphones when I go to the radio station. I always bring my own. Lots of funky things growing in other peoples ears......

Jimmy I have used the exact same headphones for around 7 years with the main cable replaced once. Bought from Richer Sounds for £60! They made a mistake with the price on their website and had to honour it. :-) I modified mine by turning the cups upside down and running one of the wires over the headband (held by good old tank tape) so that the cable only exits from one side. The current main cable is getting dodgy again, thought it was VDJ at first. Thinking of trying those AKG's above.
