For a while now ive been trying to get VDJs TCVs to work flawlessly, got very very close, had about 3 minor hiccups in one night, last weekend i went to buy new cartridges for my TTs and decided to pick up a couple of Serato's TCVs.
It seems i cannot get this setup to skip, drag, hiccup, or do anything unexpected. Im not a scratcher myself so i invited a friend who is and let him have a go, and again things are working to perfection (so good he bought VDJ, LOL), played around with the settings (WDM to ASIO and back) of the RMX and still flawless...
Could it be the coding on the VDJs TCVs? Perhaps how VDJ reads the signals? Strange no?

Have you tried the VDJs TCV after you changed cartridges?
Do you think the Serato vinyls is better than the VDJ's? Would you recommend Serato TCV or VDJ TCV?

yes i tried the VDJ TCVs with the new cartridges.
And yes, as of right now im only using Seratos, seems to be more stable, cant see how but i cannot get VDJ to fault in any way, the minute i change the settings to start using VDJ TCVs i get the drags, skips, hiccups, etc.
Here is a thought, could it be the Vinyls themselves that are faulty... or maybe the process of decoding...

Well, in danger of cursing in the church... it might seem the serato ones have better tracking with some needles.
Have had same experience myself.
Dont worry though.. VirtualDJ supports both kinds of vinyls, and in your setup, the serato vinyls works flawless with VDJ ;) all good...

maybe we could do a feedback thread, from users..
There are so many needles, and turntables..
This depends on physical factors, such as how loud the signal is sent to the PC, anti vibration/shock, the needle, cables.
And soundcard even.
I doubt we would get lucky in unison feedbacks, but it could serve as a good guide...
Reading an analogue source to control a digital software will always have room for factors that can influence the signal.

Make it sticky then ;) Or you could just fix the search function ;D
I can understand the issue with making a table with ALL needles, turntables, soundcards, cables and so on.. But if users can post the setup that actually works flawless. Then it would be easier to pick the right gear, based on what you already have.

And which timecodes do you use? If VDJ, which gen?
Thanks btw.. I got the TT-500, it's pretty much the same as the TTX... I'll buy myself a maya44 for christmas, and if it don't fix my hiccups, I'll try to get a hand on those concorde needles.. they are sexy as hell! ;)

Currently using
Hercules RMX
2 Numark TTXs with M44-7 Cartridges
This Laptop
This is the setup that plays flawless with Serato TCVs but hiccups with VDJ TCVs...
This may be irrelevant but why are VDJ TCVs so flimsy compared to Seratos?

I tryed TC from VDJ (version 4) and TC from Numark VV (version 5). both works for me.

yeah why are the VDJ TCVs so flimsy, they just dont feel as good as the others available.
I'm using:
Hercules RMX
2x Numark TT500
Numark GT carts
Korg km402 Mixer
ive got the latency down to 1ms, but i'm not over the moon happy with the sound quality I'm getting, even when I increase the latency. When I play my tunes just in winamp or whatever they sound fine, they're at 320kbps, but when I play them on VDJ when using timecodes, it sounds a bit flat and i need to turn the treble up to compensate but still dont sound great.
- could it be the cartriges im using?
- could it be the VDJ TCVs? (i did ask loads if the serato ones would work but never got an answer else I woulda got them)
- could it be the RMX that needs updating (i only use the soundcard feature on it anyways)

As the timecodes let you use the turntables as a controller, and don't give you the actual SOUND, this can't be the problem I think.
If you use the RMX as soundcard for both winamp and VDJ it could be some EQ setting in Winamp, or it could be something with the decoder. If you use another soundcard for Winamp, it could be this.

thing is, when i use just my RMX as a controller without the timecode inputs, the sound quality is great.
in another thread someone suggested I should use a cartridge with higher output voltage? but like you say the TTs dont do the audio output so I dont see how this would help, and dont wanna spend £100 just to find out.

Actually, i can't think of any reason this should happen.
Could it be the timecode signal itself you are hearing and experiencing as "bad quality" ? If so, check that your timecode channel on your soundcard is muted on the output (to get the signal you only need to activate the input).
You need to make a checklist and check everything that MIGHT have anything to do with this issue.
Please let us know if you can figure it out! :)

no, that is because Winamp processes the sound with DSP... makes it more "warm" or what else ;)
VDJ have choosen to produce sound raw, as is...
But you can download SRS or other DSP plugins to produce "warmer" sound or other sound processors from this site, or by using VST plugins

I would try the same with TCCD. You have usual cd-palyer at home for sure - so it is 4 free. Try with TCCD and you will find if there it cartridge or turntable. If it will be the same, is VDJ, TC signal or your sound card's inputs. I wouldn't blame VDJ and TC signal as it works for me (using maya44 usb)

Thanks for your comments everyone, I'll try the TCCD thing when I get back home, gonna have to dig a CD player outta somewhere.

I like the sound of this, but I can't find anywhere to download SRS or DSP plugins on this site, I have used VST plugins with Cubase years ago but how can I implement them in VDJ anddo they all work? Any recommendations?

Sound effects are here :
http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/effects.html
Most are effects there, but there is a couple that processes sound ... such as SRS, subbass, 32band EQ etc
VSTs have far more DSP kind of effects, to produce "stronger/warmer" sound..
There are litterally thousands of them..
But you can start looking here:
