Topic: getting started with video

What do I need? I want to start playing with video while I am playing music. I don't really want to purchase music videos.

My thoughts (only thoughts) are that I could record shows off the TV.
which I would need a program to do.

I would like to record the TV shows and then edit them. I would then manipulate them through the vdj software. I would like to play them on a projector to a screen.

I have looked through the Vdj manual and still had some of these questions.
what software would I need to record and edit the tv shows?
Is it illegal to record the tv shows and then play them at a show? I would not be charging to watch the shows.

I have the projector and the mobile screen.
is anyone already doing this? what gear do I need.
do I need a special type of mixer?
any special requirements of the Laptop?

why not use your clip bank for the different loops that are available, if you send me your email by pm i can help you out with one or two.... hundred, lol.
 
record tv shows and play them to music? honestly, without being rude....i don't think this is a very good idea. maybe if u get it together post it so i can see, it might be really awesome. You might be thinking something different than I am, but the way I'm picturing this in my mind....
 
I had a friend that recorded shows like gone in 60 seconds, deadly disasters, cops, sports incidents, speed chases, the type of accidents that make you want to see it again.

Then he plays it on a screen and uses the scratch feature to replay sections. He also uses worlds funniest videos and things of that nature that you don't have to have audio to watch. He does this in many local bars and they love it.

after seeing it I think it gives one more form of entertainment. I have not jumped on the band wagon but I thought what would it take to do this?

what kind of software? what kind of hardware? and is it illegal. I believe the legal question has been answered which does not surprise me.
How can I do this legally?


 
until you've bought it or own the copyright or have permission, you are flying up there without a paddle, technically speaking John... lol
 
Legally if you only play each clip for a certain amount of time you wouldn't be infringing on the copyright.

find the copyright laws to the vidoes ;D...
 
if it's like audio i would imagine only a fewseconds would be allowed, but i'm only guessing.
 
i understand what you want to do..
yes it is illegal
you may also have to do some serious editing
may also have to replace the audio

Sony Vegas is a good tool to edit with.. learning curve is low

but you may have a problem with the quality of the audio

Tayla, the thing about sampling audio being legal if it's less than 5 -10 -15 seconds is a myth. U.S. courts have repeatedly said that samples need to be cleared with rights holders no matter how small. The same would apply to video.

As far as getting TV shows and playing them in a public venue I would hate to go to jail for a "Gilligan Island" rerun. :-)

So I think there are a lot of opinions and we need to see the written law.
I have not taken the time to find the written law so I found a link to something not even close. LOL
