Open task manager and go to "Processes" and set align to see which process is using CPU resource. You can pinpoint the problem.

i have done that and its vdj tht is causin the high cpu wen loadin trax ... im runin 3gb ram and have 2ghz processor ... the prob i have is its only just started doin this i have cleaned the fans out inside laptop and still same 100% cpu almost every other song ... im am desperate at the mo as im booked fully of xmas and need sum advice on wat to do and if thts buy a new laptop thn i shall do tht ....PLEASE HELP !!!!!!

You don't have a back-up laptop, Wow! :(

If you don't have a dual core u will always see high CPU when loading, then after loaded it will drop back down. Are you usin Sonique visualizations?? If so they may be over taxing your system as well.

yes i do have back up laptop .. same as other one but gettin same result .. im not usin any visuals just music and i understand the dual core drops after loadin music but now it doesnt drop at all .. im no usin this laptop for net just dj'in no virusis nothin suckin cpu from laptop ..but im still gettin high cpu all the time .. im usin xp as i had nothin but probs with vista ... i have tried evrythng and im not gettin anywer ... could sumone who knows alot about this kida thng give me a fix or im gonna have to go back to my cdjs ..

I am having a very similar problem. I had to change out my processor and motherboard on my computer. True, I need a new computer, but this one should run VDJ with NO problems. I had an Athlon 3300 with 1.5 gig of ram, and it ran great, but I now have an Athlon 3700 with 4gigs of ram, and VDJ runs at 75-100% CPU all the time. It will slowly load a track, but very painfully. At this point, I cannot gig with my PC at all. I have a backup, but It is my club PC and it needs to stay at the club for the most part. I'm fairly hip to PC's, but I can NOT figure out why VDJ is running so rough :( It's about driving me nuts! It is VDJ that is pulling all of the CPU too, nothing else.

My BCD2000 Behringer won't work right either. I wonder if it has something to do with the audio drivers on my PC, but BCD2000 comes with its own audio drivers (since duals as a controller/ video card) that have worked just fine in the past. Any help would be great!

Let me know if you figured out the problem above. It would be worth about a million dollars (USD) to me :)

Stating the obvious. Its a problem with your hardware rather than VDJ. I have several laptops ranging from 1gb, 2gb and 4 gb mem the 1gb works fine for Karaoke although its only used for home and is over 6 years old so the spec is well below what is expected. Generally CPU is very high when loading music let alone cdg tracks. The 2gb laptop with built in graphics card has been used over xmas with out fault for Karaoke and disco with a few 90 minute mixes running. As stated in a some of my post i use PC Doctor pro and also run the usual, defrag etc... surprising what PC Doctor picks up. Hope you get it sorted. I must say so far the laptop which cost over £1800 has caused the most problems, hence why i am reluctant to gig with it.

another thing to check is your processor fan. ive had two laptops that have had fans go on them and that will slow your system down to a crawl. this will make vdj appear like its hogging everything when in reality your processor is running at a slower speed to prevent a reset.

ive ended up getting one of those laptop coolers and my systems are fine (theres too many hot booths out there for me not to have one!)

theres a program called speed fan (http://www.almico.com/speedfan437.exe) which will help to see if this is the problem.

hi what is the best laptop 4 virtualdj so the cpu is low?

I've had the same issue. I have a (Acer Aspire 8930g 6423) The unit has 4 gigs DDr3 ram, 2.0 GHZ intel DUO-Core (T5800) but only has a L2 Cache of 2MB. My Video card is the Nividia 9600m GT 512MB. My OS is Windows 7 Premium 64 bit. **VDJ 6.0 & 7.0.2**

I have done numerous recommended tweaks, optimizations to no avail. When I run the task manager VDJ is utilizing 142,000kb of memory (private working set) along with the remainder of my 50 processes a few thousand kb's here & there. I have wiped every process to experiment to no avail to help my cause. I have noticed my acer idles at 50% w or w/o using VDJ. When VDJ is on & songs are loaded whether on the C drive or F drive my external HD, CPU is 100% for a instant then always around 80 to 100%. This is just for audio.

I didn't mind it for the 2010 season. But the 2011 season I will be using video, & the VDJ sonique files to enhance all shows: weddings, schools, clubs.

I may be lacking in the Cache department, or may need to upgrade the processor. I don't mind purchasing another machine. This acer was 1,800.00 2.5 years ago. And ranked very high all across the web for GAMING. I'm not a gamer.

I'm hoping to find EDUCATED answers from moderators & or computer engineers. I enjoy VDJ. I had the same high CPU issues with Serato Itch.
I will be looking locally in Cleveland, OH for a reputable computer person with my puter specs in hand along with minimum system requirements for VDJ & Serato software.

I really need a computer tech who understands computers & operating systems as much as DJ'ing:) Thanks to all for everyone's hard work.

ive disabled alot of services that have really helped with keepin my cpu usage low...i dont know if this would help anyone with their situation.

HP Dual Core 1.86, 3gRam, Mobile Intel 965 express (windows Vista)

I dont have virus protection, internet services on these laptops, i strictly use them for veejaying/deejaying.

Windows Services Disabled on Vista Laptop (no issues running virtual dj with these disabled) (WARNING! disable service a few at a time, til you get most of them disabled)
You can keep a log by exporting the list within windows (Start/Settings/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services/Action/Export List)
This works for me, some services disabled might not work for others, so take it slow, if you're not sure, then leave it alone, also look up the services title online and get more information that way.

After a day of experimentation, this machine ran flawlessly with VDJ. CPU idle times 20% with VDJ. When I loaded a song via my external hard drive (1) root folder, (1) sub folder then the actual song it peaked at 35%. When loading multiple songs Deck (A) & Deck (B) simultaneously over & over it peaked at only 50%. Then I went on to Sonique files, again loading multiples. Again it would peak at 72% & idle around 50%. Then I moved onto Dual videos in a MP4 format trying all sorts of effects & transitions. I would scratch a video, hold said video on the numark V7 platter, Bend pitch, & scratch (2) videos. The end result was a peak at 72% with average idle at 50%. With that said, the only thing the Toshiba LACKS is the HDMI output slot. But there are many VGA to HDMI conveters which are generally 720p. If you like 1080p then purchase a VGA to HDMI SCALER for the full time video jocks.

End result for all who find this. Use the hardware specs posted as a baseline. The Toshiba retail $400.00 vs. my Acer 8930G-6423 $1800.00.
The Toshiba ate my Acer in VDJ 7.0.2 & Serato itch. Not having a degree in computer science I believe it is a 32bit vs 64bit O.S. The Toshiba even had the dreaded 32bit VISTA. No glitches. The 64bit had the Windows 7 Premium. The sad thing is that I have been laptop shopping & the majority of mass market computers are now 64bit.

I'm looking into RAIN COMPUTERS which makes laptops & towers geared towards DJ's,producers, & audio engineers. But I found a extra Toshiba via C-List in great condition for $200.00,,,,LMAO. So I know what my back up will be.
I will experiment more & leave feedback. Thanks, Greg.

Greg,

I can understand your frustrations as I run 3D software (as part of my work) and when rendering the laptop I use nearly melts from running at 100% for hour after hour.

One of the main problems I see with laptops is overheating. As previously mentioned, when a laptop gets hot, it will throttle back on CPU cycles to avoid crashing. The downside is that you end up with a machine that can become unusable.

Nightclubs, etc, are notorious for being hot, sweaty places so buying a laptop cooler (or even just a desk fan) will pay dividends. Another cause of excessive heat is using a load of USB powered devices, rather than either a powered USB hub or powering the devices directly.

As far as the laptops I use for DJ'ing I use two.

Advent 4211b - Atom 1.6, 2Gb RAM, XP (tweaked) and I shell directly to VDJ 6.1.2 using a modified "@" skin, with a DJIO, dual NDX800's, DDM4000 mixer (sound setup in VDJ - External Mixer), wireless off, bluetooth off, no AV.

With this configuration I do get peaks in CPU usage when loading of about 80% then it'll settle down to about 20% and I never use VDJ effects, I use the effects rack in the DDM4000.

I've used this netbook for over a year now and it has never missed a beat.

My lastest purchase was a Dell Studio 15 Black Chainlink Edition that runs Win7 (64bit), Intel i5, 4Gb RAM. I removed all the shipped AV and installed Miscrosoft Security Essentials (I don't surf to any illegal or questionable sites). With this laptop I run 7.0.2 (in 4 deck mode) with a DJIO, Mixmeister controller (mapped for 4 decks), wireless on.

During the period of soak testing it, I've noticed the CPU usage rarely climbs above 40% even when looping, effects on, loading multiple decks, netsearching, etc.

Before I use any of my kit in a live situation, I run the configuration for about a week, running non-stop and I try whatever I can to make it fall over. Only when I'm happy with it will I use it live.

I just posted & a second later, you were posting. Great minds think a like. I run (2) V7's & a X5 for the mixer. I'm waiting on the release of the X7 (4 channel MIDI) mixer just for the option of video crossfading. Same thing though,,I try to make it fall over & will leave videos running for hours before I'd ever take it out live. But disabling the basics, webcam, anti-virus etc along with matching your skin resolution, to your computer's resolution are standard basics. I personally power directly through the USB & have no need for hubs. If I was to get into say a MIDI FIGHTER or the optional MAudio UC33E (which I'm contemplating) for leveling my sample drops,,,then I may get into a hub. But as for now I use 1 USB port for the V7 & one for my external HD. As for VDJ having now multiple decks & a single V7 being able to act as Deck (A) & Deck (B). If & when that mapper is ever available I'd love to have MIDI control over (4) decks. For now it is a hobby for me. The digital scratch emulates the Analog scratch,,but it's not the same. It has came a long way but still has a way to go. I'm struggling with it,,but it gives me something to practice,lol....Thanks for your input. I see a lot of peeps asking what computer & or O.S. to use. I tried to answer that in a budget friendly manner until they really understand what they are utilizing VDJ for Mp3,Mp4,CDG etc.. Thanks for the feedback!! Greg.

Hi fellow VDJ users. After Hours of searching for a solution to this problem i have found something the seems to work very well...
Config > Performances > Sound Card > Latency: AUTO ... Safe Mode: TICKED.

Like i said this seems to do the trick. I'd be interested in finding out if this helps.

If you've cleaned the fans, did you re-apply the thermal compound on the processor? My CPU meter was beginning to spike regularly so I took the lappy apart and cleaned the thermal fan assembly, cleaned off and re-applied the thermal compound and BOOM... the CPU meter sits between 7 and 15% with 2 sets of Midi devices, external HD, wireless mouse dongle and external soundcard all working at once. The only time the meter gets a bit high is during the loading of a deck.

Keep that in mind next time you clean your fans.
