Topic: Does anyone feel limited by VDJ? - Page: 1

Does anyone out there feel like their being limited by VDJ?..I primarily mix trance music, and essentially trance requires longer transitions from one song to another compared to other genere's. Most of the time VDJ does a good job at keeping the beats aligned but then sometimes my beats start to drift apart even after i adjust the beat grid and make sure everything is matched. Im not a fan of the sync button, I do all the beat matching on my own. I check the bpm of my songs in both VDJ and another program called Mixed In Key. I kind of wished VDJ had a beat warping function like ableton does that helps make sure everything is locked in beat.

why do you need either if you like to make your own mix? or is it to early in the morning for me...

some things we were not meant to understand. and i think that post was one of them.
the only thing i have ever felt limited by has been my own understanding of VDJ. the manual, the forums, and occasional messages from others using the software have helped more than i would have thought possible.

My ole lady feels limited by VDJ..... Christ the amount of time I spend on these damn forums, editing video, trying to modify a skin (pretty unsuccessful)... I could go on and on and on....

yeah yeah yeah... alright already, lol

Only limitation to VDJ is my creativity and sometimes laziness to explore it!

my point is that when i try to utilize long transitions from one song than another....meaning more than 32 beats of intro/outro some times the beats tend to drift apart even when everything is beat matched...It mite just be me then...

Which version do you use? You can manually beat-tap to help VDJ to calculate BPM correct. It is possible that your rip is taken from a vinyl recorded from bad turntable, so the BPM is not constant.

As long as anything's got two decks with pitch-sliders I will never feel limited.
I doubt computer programs will ever be able to DJ like humans, only advice I can give is to train, and train some more after that.

You are right there, VDJ is just a tool, you are still DJ ;)

Kind of like the old saying?? "shoes dont make the player!" Well VDJ is the same "A program doesn't make the DJ!!" I am /was a hard core turntablest!! and I get crap from all my fellow DJ's who still are. Like it was said before practice practice and practice some more. To me VDJ is more a convience!! no vinal or cd casses to lug!! No limitation here :)

thats kinda a contradiction in terms ;) want the software to mix for your or not ? ;)

Anyways, warp function wont work at a LIVE dj software... unless you want VDJ to demand a quad core pc ...

The dj gotta be the dj at times, even if software does provide some aids... :)

I do very long blends when I mix house. If you were to utilize a controller, like the RMX or Total Control, you could accomplish long blends by using the jogs to keep the songs in sync manually. It can still be accomplished using a mouse, like White Devil does. You might just need to practice more, which would allow you to become more comfortable with the software, and its ins and outs.

i dont feel limited by vdj at all i feel free...to do more stuff on the fly...rmx loop add samples...when i wanted to loop back in the day i had to beat juggle...i still do it but now i can loop and add vocals on the fly.....couldnt do that with just tables...

as for beat matching and the song falls off sync...ummm use the pitch control...thats what i do...only time i use sync button is when im feeling
lazy or doing quick mixes....and trust...thats not often

keep mixin!

Anyone can play but its skill to keep the groove going all night. I started out when you had to be able to move the pitch up and down to keep the beats. From the sounds of it all I can tell you is to leave the sync alone play, practice learn the craft. One more thing you will get better if you become a licensed user lol

I felt limited using Vdj at the beginning because I was having some issues with the TCV; the main problem was bended TCV and old needles. My Vdj has improve dramatically, what I can say about the question (does anyone feel limited by vdj) is, NO NO NO NO WAY, on the contrary I feel limited if I don't have it; just two turntable and a mixer doesn’t make it any more.

this is the same thing people were complaining about on the itch forum.....hey guess what turntables will drift also....the only thing i can say is compensate Vdj has all the tools you need to do that.... even tapping the sync button id an option

lmao...i feel limited oops...oh i am a limited user....jesus...that just shows you how you can never ever make everybody happy.....yeah my car can make 220 mph....but dammm why cant it fly??? vdj is the best thing out ableton live is a remix tool not a standalone software to dj with the warping is great on ableton live but only for mashups because you have to stay at a certain bpm....and that would be really really boring at a club...yeah i know you can work around ableton live to dj with i tried by mapping it to my mpd32 and using a soundcard for headset etc. but come on limited on virtual dj...when where you able to mix and scratch videos, when where you able to switch from one song to another in less than a second...i mean the list goes on bro....yeah i wish i could press a button and a cheeseburger (no unions) with fries and a coke popped out the screen.....maybe someday in the future but for now let me see....70 pound racks or a 7 pound lappy.....maybe couple hundred 12" vinyls or 10 to 20+ mp3 under my arm one handed.....yeah clear "limited" winner virtual dj

Greetings.

I have a problem when I try to use beat lock. I'll use my controller to sync 2 songs together. Then I'll hit the "B" key to start the lock process. The mix-in song usually stutters and delays a bit and locks. Unfortunately the locked tracks are out of phase of the true sync I started with. It does not sound right.

I haven't found a cure for this so I just sync manually with my controller. I would love it if VDJ would accept my sync and not try to re-adjust me, because it is usually wrong. I play mostly Promo Only cuts.

My config is set for "Any Music". If I could figure this out and keep the beats locked I could jump to the next level of adding another layer to the mix.

Yes, right now I feel limited. But I'm learning.

Regards,

Jim L.
