Well, to give you an idea of the places I DJ, the two most requested songs, by far,.. every night:

Kanye West - Gold Digger
Black Eyed Peas - My Humps

I am personally worn out on both of these songs. But I still have to play them. People get seriously emotional when I don't play them. A few weeks ago the same girl came up to me THREE times and could not grasp why I usually play Gold Digger in the later part of the night, not at 9pm when there is nobody there. She could seriously not understand why I can't play it NOW. After she came back for the third time, I told her she does not need to come back. I did not forget, I play the song every night, etc. I am not kidding here,.. she seriously wanted to fight me. She was so upset that I would not play the song RIGHT THIS MINUTE. I did end up playing the song around 11 to make her happy, but that made a whole bunch of people pissed off who came at midnight and requested the song all night long and I wouldn't play it again.
 
hehe :), those two aren't bad tunes, Their are worse "most requested" tunes..

One tip Anewsome, never disagree or contradict a girl when she's drinking.., You just don't do it! LOL.

Incidentaly what's the best BPM reading you can get for "my hump"?..
 
I'm at work but if I recall correctly My Humps is around 120bpm or thereabouts. I think I had to manually tap it out since the regular version of the song throws off VDJ beat counter pretty easily.
 
Seriously, this girl wanted to fight me. I know you guys think I'm making this up, but she was pissed. She REALLY wanted to hear Gold Digger. After she came up the third time and I told her she didn't need to come up again, a few minutes later one of the other girls from their table came up and said, and I kid you not, "my girl wants to know why you won't play Gold Digger". I'm thinking to myself,.. "are you freaking kidding me?, what is with these girls and this damn song". I was surreal, I'm serious.

hehe, You always get someone like that, I don't think their's any harm in playing select songs twice a night, providing it's within a sensible timeline, this is not to be confused with those DJ's that play all the latest songs 2-3 times over pretty much in a row!..

And yea Some tunes are a bit tricky to calculate, I might need to spend a bit more time manually adjusting some, I guess it's hit me because I'm playing alot more styles these days, with house and club music BPM is a doddle!.
 
What is wrong with playing a song more than once during the night? You are there for the people, not your own pleasure. I have worked numerous clubs over the years. some clubs would open at 9PM and close at 7AM in the morning. I would have to play certain songs 2-4 times through out the night to keep the dance floor packed. I also keep different versions of the most popular tunes, in order to change the sound when I have to play it more than once.

I think there's nothing wrong with playing the same track more than once, as long as there's a safe time distance in between ;-)

Basically if a Dj plays these songs I'll be happy :-)
I really preffer Hip-Hop and Raggae, but playing a 'House' track once in a while is great as just Hip-Hop gets boring after a while ;-)

I like songs that get your feet moving, Rihanna's Pon De Replay is a great example.
 
I usually start out with a few mainstays, DJ Tiesto, Sandstorm, Vengaboys, Hamster Dance (:P) or a custom intro, if the party master hired me to do so.

If my crowd isnt digging anything, I tend to bring out the AC/DC (Back In Black) or Guns 'n Roses (Welcome to the Jungle).

These are really fun when mixed with dance/trance backbeats. ;)

but it's funy that all the girls want "Gold Digger".. hmm *looks at the lyrics*

"Ain't saying she a gold digger, but she ain't messing with no broke ******"

Also, Pussycat Dolls has to be the MOST requested tune, and it';s seriosly started to drive me insane! Sorry to anyone that likes it, but it is ultimately the worst song ever released.

personal opinion, i think it only plays up to women's desire to be better than the other women out there.. and I believe this song also to be bad, and morally wrong.

but yes its usually PCD, or Kanye at the top spots now... or a great request that comes along as "Can ya play som R&B instead of this dancy s**t, we can't dane to this housey s**t, play some R&B so we can dance"
 
Unfortunately, I tend to do a light DJ show for the younger (13-14) crowd, and although they love Kanye West, the school that hired me would have my ear if I played the unedited version of anything. -_-
 
if you think *girls* requesting pussycat dolls or gold digger makes no sense (because of the lyrical content), then you understand why I am COMPLETLEY astounded that every single night I DJ (and I DJ a lot of nights), I have at least 4 *girls* request snoop dogg - ain't no fun. that has to be the single most degrading song for women ever made. seriously. the entire song is one long degrading rant to women. why in the world would any girl who can actually understand english ever want to hear that song. it's embarrasing. are there any girls on the forum who can comment?

sure enough though, they will request it tomorrow night, and I will play it. i will guarantee you that 90% of the girls in the place will be singing along to it and they all know every single word. somebody explain this to me please.
 

It's the music "magic"... In the dance floor we like more the rhythm than the lyrics...

For what it's worth, I used to DJ underground raves back in the late 80's early 90's...

@anewsome - Where do you spin at?? I'm in SoCal as well... who knows, maybe I've heard you spin (at a club) and not even know it. ;-)

I use VDJ at school dances and parties, in the midland of Iowa. I get so much intrest, as I'm the only DJ for miles around. ;)
