I have a 900meg avi file that played smoothly with my last version of version 4. When I upgraded to 5.0 this video would no longer play smoothly, no automix just one single file dragged to the deck. I just upgraded computers, I have 8gig ddr2 quad core and dual 8800 video cards. I still have the exact same problem with this file. Of course now, the cpu load is down to 10% or less while it plays. All my files are vob, except for this file which I believe is avi (had to edit it on windows movie maker).
