i got an external drive that i will be loading my songs from my internal. will i have to use the same steps to load songs and scan the same as if they were on internal drive to use on my vdj??

Yes,
All windows will do is to give it a name like E drive or F drive, then once VirtualDJ is open it will see it. It will either be open of you might have to just click on it to open it. The files from the External h/d should then just load onto the decks as normal.
