...production of House music?? I would like a good discussion here, not just "Its a dead form bro". Seems to me very few people are truly producing good house music recently, it is all remixes of older stuff. Why is no one creating unique beautiful house like was done in the past? Please post your thought/opinions here. Thanks.

Right now nostalgia is hot.

It's just a fashion trend, It'll go soon enough.

I think Terry there are still good House tracks out there, but for me when they are released into the charts, and get called commercial Dance that what spoils it.

One reason for this I think it's the money side of things, say A producer makes a track on a white label, it comes a massive Dance floor hit around the world, A record company signs him up, then I believe that producer, he is not forced, but generally hurried up to try replicate this first massive hit, with another one and that's where the quality starts to slide.

Don't know about the production but all the good "house" music is on my Hard Drive.

Here's a couple from the last few weeks

Artist: STEVE N KING meets LE ROCK Title: Clap Your Hands (extended mix)
Artist: Shove Title: The Main Idea (2008 edit) :: PSY TRANCE but bouncing
Artist: N TONE feat INUSA Title: Life Is Love :: Couple of good mixes. 1 funky 1 just plain house
Artist: ANTHONY A Title: Watermelon (original mix)

Give them a listen on Juno

From my point of view house music is alive and kickin... On the other hand it all depends on what u call GOOD house music! I am more into soulful and deep house and in this genre i cannot complain about the lack of good productions. So i d better give u some names to judge for yourself...:
1. Quentin Harris
2. Dennis Ferrrer
3. Ame
4. Rachael Starr
5. Shik Stylko
6. Filsonik
7. Franck Roger
8. Yass
9. Mr. V
and last but not least 10. Louie Vega (Masters @ Work)

Hope this will do the job for starters....

Dee P.

P.S. Internet radio is a great source for inspiration. Try out deepinside.co.uk for example. For more check out traxsource(specialised in soulful and deep house) and beatport (more techy and progressive)

the thing i like about house more than any other genre is that it assumes influences from everywhere. and no its by far not dead. and i dont agree about the retro thing. retro doesnt mean going back, but adds to what i said about taking influences. im a chicago house freak myself, and there are few in this field these days (no more than 100 artists and djs worldwide) and we all know each other somehow (through friends and networking). the style is very influenced by jazz, funk, motwon, soul and is quite eclectic, and largely ignored by the rest of the world. but when you get down to producing it, its among the hardest classes to do well and requires real musical knowledge.

my opinion on it is that the masses follow fads which die easily because there wasnt much credibility to begin with. sorry, but i believe in that because very few people actually listen to music for mental or emotional stimulation (people are more interested in getting messed up and laid than listening to the tunes). similalrly to people dont read books, theyd prefer watching sienfeld or the family guy to loosen up after work.

im not trying to be superior or clasist, but its just what i notice when i play out. i choose my jobs and largely live in the background because im part of a tiny minority and like to stay there. van gogh didnt give a shit about who liked his paintings (which were non but his brother theo), and he died crazy and completely destitute. but today he sells the highest value paintings because of the followers who dont have any of their own opinions. music for the masses is dead the moment it comes out, its the strange nutters who get ignored that actually shape the future.

i repsect huge business people like madonna or p diddy for their business acumen, but honestly, noone in 100 years will be remembering it like we still remember mozart (who also died dejected or beethoven who died completely deaf)

house music is still there because its on the very front of musical evolution, despite the fads and the lack of interest from the pop scene.
