CLEARLY many are having video freezing problems. does putting the biggest video card on the market in the pc (dual 750mb SLI -yes 2 cards tied together, see gaming pc) with 4gb regular memory and a quad core processor solve the problem ? davefromlondon

LOL, that is a good one ;)
I think you don't need that monster machine for video, 7600Gt or new and better 8600Gt will be enough. Put Core 2 6300, 2Gb DDR2 800Mhz memory and 320Gb hdd with 16 mB cache and you are ready to go ;)

What are your specs on machine and video card again, djcel?

I bought a ASUS A6J in February 2006 with:
* processor : Intel Centrino Core Duo T2300 @ 1666 MHz
=> it's not the Core 2 Duo but the previous version of dual core processor
* chipset : Intel i945PM
* physical memory : 1024MB ( 2 x 512 DDR2-SDRAM)
* video card : ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 256MB (SDRAM)
=> 512MB in HyperMemory
* OS: Windows XP Pro SP2 / Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

I'm using an HP a1350n pc with AMD Athlon 64 x 2 Dual Core 4200+ 984MHz
XP Service Pack 2
3GB RAM
ATI Radeon X800

I realise my suggestion is overkill but I see lots of posts of random freezing. I use 3-d transition between videos so that is more demanding than pure video (2D) . I run a business on these products so while spending $5k is far from ideal, if it once and for all solves the freezing issue then worth it. The reason for the post is to avoid buying that machine if its overkill

Graphics cards: ATI Mobility Radeon X1600

May I assume you guys above have dedicated memory (perhaps it WAS spelled out in the specs, unbeknownst to me) in your video cards. And is that the real KEY here in getting videos to work properly?

Of course you need a video card with Video RAM dedicated, at least 128MB but i would say 256MB to be sure of smooth video

That is why desktop video cards are better at the moment for this, you have models with DDR3 memory which is faster than ddr2 in laptops.

Dave I agree with the above, my pc is runnin an ATI Radeon X1900 Pro 256 DDR3 card and works quite well, you can also go with the ATI Radeon X1600 card as I hear there are users with success with this card. You might also want to take your ATI drivers back to 7.2. I had jumpy videos with the 7.3 and the 7.4 drivers with the current Direct X update. Give the driver thing a shot.
