I've got a Maya 44 USB , used it for over a year now, and want to buy another soundcard for a second compact rig. I don't mind shelling out some more cash to get even better sound. Has anybody any suggestions?

for me u46 dj is better than maya
also it haves 6 outputs and if you have a 3 channel mixer you can use the 3rd channel for your samples

Yeah, that's good, but aren't there any soundcards that will sound better?
It already sounds great, but don't want to miss out when I'm playing my top quality beatport tracks in Wav format through a good system.
I guess that we are a bit constrained by the VDJ output being 16 bit??

Beatport tracks are often crap. I have several tracks bought there, of which I´m 100% positive that they were just ripped from vinyl through a cheap soundcard. I have often tried to download illegal copies via eMule and compared to the beatport stuff, eMule users often have better quality in their rips.
Besides, 16 bit is enough. The whole recording process ends in 16 bit, so you wont get jack out of a 24 bit.
I also have the Maya 44 and while I think it´s better than U46DJ (which I owned and sold) it´s ofcourse not a high end product - quite the opposite. It´s the cheapest thing around. But you have to go all the way to some 6 in / 10 out firewire with lots of mic preamps and who knows what (that you don´t need) to get something that really sounds better. And it´s not an easy thing to install in tiny spaces. So I happily stick with the Mayal, allthough - if something as simple and handy as the Maya came up, but with better components, I would shurely buy it.

I've only had a couple of crap downloads from Beatport, but have also had some excellent ones since I started buying them as Wav files. Interesting about Emule. You recommended it before. I don't use file sharing services but is there anything different about this one?
Thanks for the input on bit rates I'll buy a second Maya, they're £69 from http://www.Thomann.de which I think is a bit of a bargain. Probably expensive compared to the States though.

eMule is different in having the largest "catalougue" of them all. It´s just the biggest there is. I wish there was a legal way of getting so much music on your hands in so little time.
I think I will try to buy a few tracks as wav from beatport if they really sounnd better. Only thing that puzzles me about it is that there is ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE in the quality of a 320Kbit MP3 and wave/cd audio. DJ Mag did a big test to settle once-and-for-all the ongoing discussion about the issue of wave / mp3 / ogg / wmv etc. They brought in some hot producers, djs and audio technicians to the excellent club Fabric and made a pepsi blind challenge, which - amongst other things - proved that really is no difference from cd to 320 Kbit. Not if you fuck up the encoding ofcourse and I might consider the beatport staff to be that dumb (-:. So I´ll try the wav for once

Hi again,
Yes, I saw that article and they may be right from their own test , but I swear blind I can tell the difference with my setup. Plus which with hard drive space so cheap now i'm not too worried about file size. I did a google search for emule and came across a site which had a subscription charge and another one which was just for download of a file sharing program (like limewire, etC) Which one are you referring too?
