So far I have 8 Proceszses running

How did you format it as it was a C drive, can you stick another drive in a system and will it change the drive letter. Damnit I knew I shouldnt have gotten myself into this mess

When I formated the drive i removed it from the dj system; set the jumpers on the back of the drive to "cable select" and then hooked it up (if IDE) to the secondary IDE connection - hooked up a power cable

1) Turn on the compy
2) select the new hard drive in MY COMPUTER
3) FIle dropdown menu - select format and follow the instructions.

this formats the drive for XP - this is okay cause VISTA will reconise the format - and when you re-install VISTA on a blank XP formated disk - you can re-format it again for VISTA during the install process - MAke sure you chose ADVANCED setup

Don;t worry about the drive "letter" - windows changes that as it needs to according to how many drives/partitions you have

can I take it to another XP machine and re-format it?? I am thinkin now I am going to reformat and go back to XP as my MOBO has no Vista drivers. I can do video I think just no Sonique on Vista. As of now I am tryin a different USB port on the machine for the MK2 I am also gonna try and install the Audio driver as a XP driver. UPDATE found the drivers at NVIDIA we will see how it goes.

Should work.

Yes you can re-format in XP - and go back to XP if you want.

If you don't use the onboard audio I wouldn't worry about it - VIsta will install a generic audio driver and you'll have sound.

That's if you're going to use the MK2 as a soundcard.

I am now havin the same problem as I had with the Dell back in the days. In order to use the MK2 as a soundcard it has to be on Safe Mode. Now I know that isnt right, but I dont see why there are 40 processes runninf and I have no clue what some of them are. I am about to keyboard and mouse dj this week or I am gonna install XP on another drive. This is weird I thought I would jump ahead a little goin to Vista, but I have jumped back.

I have No clue what that list of IRQ's means - I don;t know that much about software - Sky might.

If the Comp that you use to DJ with is a non-internet laptop then do the following:

Disable defender (in control panel)
Turn off Auto-update (in security center)
Turn off windows firewall
basically - surf around control panel and turn off anything related to internet security.

Also while in control panel - go to system - advanced tab - performance setting button, and set to - Adjust to best performance.

Your desktop will revert back to a Classic windows "skin"

That should get rid of a lot of processes.

Make sure that the system does not go online after doing that because you've just removed all the extra security that makes Vista really secure

I M on the system now as we speak. I WILL tell you however that the video out the 2nd monitor is cyrstal clear and not jumpy. I swear I got 42 processes running and I could still possibly do more than XP and actually make it through a night of djing. I think I might take Fri off and work on this system. The worst that could happen is that I can go back to XP (which was workin awesome) and have it up next week. I need to upgrade the ole MOBO and CPU to dual core. What freaks me out is the fact that Cyder has about the same system as me ann his is flawless. Makes me wonder how mucj BS is in this Vista cause I doo see MCE and that pisses me off.

I think You'll be able to get it working - Maybe PM cyder for some tips since he has the same hardware.

I do agree with them tht Vista is a superior OS - Good as ConQuest keeps telling us mac's are? - Dunno - but good for a microsoft product.

I've been spending time converting and ripping Music Videos

Hopefully I'll solve some Hardware issues (video crossfader soon and might post up some mixtapes with photo slideshows/ music videos and some interesting cross-genre mixing.

I guess a Purple Onion Ulti-mix, some RnB/Reggea, some Heavy Metal, some Alt - Dance.

More of a youtube advertisment again than a mixtape for any other purpose.

They seem to be having an effect - I'm getting more people coming to the back of the DJ booth saying they've checked it out.

where our 2 systems differ is the mk2. I don't use usb sound on my gig machine except when I'm running tests for the VV interface or djio their beta vista drivers do cause a bit of system instabilty when running but thats the nature of beta drivers. I'm using a 192l from esi out to an external mixer. I'm also using asio drivers for it in 2 output mode. I have a lot of junk from vista turned off. I was running latency at 512 but I upped to 1024 to lower cpu even more on track load. Its amazing it sits a 2% mixing two vob's Thats about it for tweeks. I have a pre-production dmc-2 also on usb. My gig machine has 9 internal drives and 2 smaller external back ups for a total of 11 drives on the system 939 single core, its smooth as ice.

The other difference between our systems is the fact that I am usin an ATI video card. Now I havent messed with the Vista since I last typed here, but I do now have it installed dual boot with XP on 2 seperate drives. Now another thing that may be screwin me up is the fact that my OSs are on IDE drives as I couldnt get XP installed on my SATA drives. If I could figure this out it may help. My machine also has 2 GB RAM. I am debating on building a Dual Core machine as I am saving my money to update. Also I have tried my onboard soundcard and still couldn't get rid of the crackles and pops and crappy sound unless I used Safe Mode.

Same here I feel the time is right to jump on the AM2 train. One good rule of thumb when trying to install an os is to make sure all your drives except the drive you want to install windows on and of course a cd rom are the only things connected. When I do an os install I make the system as basic as possible I even use a ps2 keyboard and mouse.

I had trouble with ide0 wanting to be the c drive when using vista, and of course after I worked it all out I still have a boot backup file on it, which I can live with. I also have a dual system however I just make sure the drive with the os on it I want to use is in the hot swap bay. I haven't touched xp since I switched to vista about 3 months ago.

I never had luck with the nforce audio but I really had no reason to use it with the djio and 192l backing each other up. I got some weird skipping at first just like you did, I killed the sidebar and most of it went away. After I turned off more visual junk (like the same thing for xp) and killing some un-needed processes, I finally got a stable system. It will run lower latency if i ask it to, but for the drop in cpu I'll stick to 1024. As I said before I'm not using wdm drivers, and in asio mode the safe mode checkbox really doesn't do anything.

Weird thing is that your setup as twice the ram and on paper a better video card. I dunno if ati is having issues with their vista stuff, but I know my 6600gt has none.

Makes me wanna grab an NVIDIA graphics card to try it out. Which is ok as I have another system I need to build for my dad. I may just try that. Do you have an OS on a SATA drive??

I always felt my lucky number was 3 so yes my OS is on sata #3 by itself

Thats what I will do this week. I will do a dual boot partition on the #3 Sata drive which will be ok cause I can remove my IDE drive that has XP and if this doesnt work I can go back to that drive. I will let you know. I was gonna do it today but my Sea-Doo was more important. I took her out on the maden voyage of the year yess it was a bit cold 65 in the air and 45 in the water, but it ran as smooth as a cats ass. Brian

Well here goes:



Points of interest on this video:
- Done in Vista
- All video Effects done in VDJ - no external editors.
- Only Controller used was DAC 2 and 3 channel rack mixer.
- Props once again to cstoll for making the mapper.
- Both sound and Video cards are Motherboard intergated, nothing added
- as many as 5 video effects running simultainiously;
- Slideshow
- video rotation
- video cube
- showlogo
- sonique visualizations (might be hard to see, I had the transparency turned waaaay down)

The original mix had two more songs mixed into it. Proper Education - Eric Prydz & Wherever I Roam - Metallica. But it got rejected by YouTube because of length. Also I had to compress it down to a very small file to fit within YouTubes guidelines.

I hate rules.

Feedback about mixing and transitions will be apreciated.

We advertise as a Rock-Oriented CLub so Rock is a dominant music form at my Club - No choice but to learn to mix it.

I know how that is back in the day I did the same thing except it was worse with country, Over the years I developed a hate for any type of country music. To top that I would have to listen to live country music between sets when I did those shows.
