How does it work, does it analyze the whole song, and come up with an average for the whole song? it seams thats what it does, but some songs, like lets say "Take Me Out" franz ferdinan (sp?) it starts off fast, and then gets slower. I want to use those songs to go from one genre to another, but it takes the average beat of the whole song, and with some songs I get some crazy reading, like 190bpm.....
Anywho, the reason that I need this to work better is not so much for mixing, I just like the fact that I can loop in and out, and not have to worry about being "ON POINT" every time, and if the BPM is wrong than what it actually it, then I have to turn off the 'smart' and do it myself (Which about 70% of the time, I get it right, but I want 100%!!!
So, anyone have any techniques, or easy fixes for this?
-Thanx

The bpm engine is not perfect, by a long shot. You are right, it takes an average of the whole track. I am not sure, but I think that is the only way any bpm engine works. So, if you have a trax that is all over the place, the average will not work for you, or me. Fortunately, you can calculate manually, and pike which beat you want to calculate. Play the trax, right click the trax in the record case. Select edit bpm, and just tap the "manual beat tap", to the beat you want. Do at least 10, and hit OK. It is set to the bpm that suits you.
